After many weeks of being undecided I have finally taken the plunge to get my hair permanently straightened :)

It is going to cost me an arm and a leg but I am so sick and tired of my uncontrollable masses of thick hair that looks most of the time like I have been through a hedge backwards :rolleyes: :D

My hair is getting worse as the more the grey hair is coming through the more course and wavy it is becoming :)

It is going to take about 5 hours to do at a cost of £300 which is alot of money I know but I have seen the results and it makes your hair look in fantastic condition and I won't have to faff about trying to straighten my hair which most of the time I fail miserably :D

Has anybody else had this done or knows of anybody who has had it done as would like to hear about it !

Your best bet is to find a hairdresser that specialises in afro hair, they are the best at getting even a slight kink out of any hair. They will also be able to give you different options, and have the best knowledge of what is best for your hair. :D

And to think I spent a fortune on perms in the 80's and 90's :rolleyes:

Not sure what has happened to mine, I have always had poker straight hair, that just hangs and does absolutely nothing, I had it permed over and over when I was younger but even perming it didn't make it curly! But now it goes into ringlets and stays when I want it to!!! :D

I know you cant have it done if ny of your hair is coloured..... I wanted  mine done but I have highlights!!! You lucky thing let us know how it looks x

How long will it last Lucy? you hair is growing all the time.
But if you think its worth it to feel good as you work very hard maybe its a treat you deserve.

It lasts for about 7 months and as my hair is reasonably long maybe more :D

It is not only a treat but also a way of making me feel good as having lovely straight hair that looks in good condition will give me some added confidence when I start my new job :)

It improves condition by about 80% and to have shiney straight hair will be wonderful :D

I know it is expensive but it is something I sort of promised myself as a reward for getting a new job :)

I know a girl who had this treatment on her hair and it was beautiful.  Really straight and she said she did nothing to style it in the morning, it just went into place.  I remember she also said you can't put your hair behind your ears for a week or so as it takes time to 'set' and it can permantly kink if you put it behind your ears at the beginning.

LOL Lucy all that time in a hairdressers - best have a really good book. Personally i am getting a bit fed up with long straight hair (except the grey ones which look horibly like pubes) was thinking of having blond highlights until someone pointed out how long I owul have to sit still for, how often and how much it would cost :D

I have high and low lights, it takes about two hours, no horrid plastic cap and pins to pull the hair through, lovely easy foils, and I have it done about every 10 weeks, it is £40 :D I don't think it is overly expensive. Especially as when I was high lightening customers hair, I charged anything from £50-£80 - I wouldn't pay that much knowing how much it actually cost's to get the stuff from wholesalers!!! ;)

I'm not really into 'hair' - but when my totally straight, thin, brown hair started looking a little dull a few years ago I took the plunge and had some colours 'put in' :D Had it done again on Wednesday - took 2 hours and was about £40. No 'swimming hat' - they just use a spatula to put the colour in and a few foils. Hides the few gray hairs that I have :D Even my daughter thinks that it looks good :D

I did used to have it done, when my hair was significantly shorter (shoulder length plus a little bit) gave up when the bill came to over £100 and I was having to have it doen every 8 weeks. Hair is now well past shoulder blades so I darent ask how much and dont want to go somewhere 'cheep' incase they muck it up and it then takes 3 years to grow out.

Hi-lights are a dream for helping conceal grey hairs.......(.hence my regular appointments ;)  ) I wouldn't mind if they looked distinguished by appearing around my temples..........Oh no they sprout out the top of my head Well worth it Bluebell IMHO. :D

My hi-lights are now intermingled with lo-lights - that way, the grey gets hidden completely without me turning Pauline Fowler blonde ;)

It's really grown very long now (well, I attack the fringe with the dog thinning scissors & leave the rest to its own devices :D ) - last time I was actually at the hairdresser's was the day before Crufts 2004

I might start going again - cos now, I'm going to have to start putting it up!

With the weight of my hair I won't need to have it done for about 8 to 9 months all being well :)

I also have mine high and low lighted as have a greying problem :rolleyes: I also have a lovely big mallen streak right at the front.

I am going to try it and see what happens. If it works it works if it doesn't then I will get my money back :)

Tomorrow at 11.30am be thinking of me ! :)

We have got a babysitter tomorrow night so hopefully will be able to show off my new look :D

Blushes in Cheltenham do a good job Lucy, I know someone who had theirs done there.  It was great but she's one of those people who spends exorbitant amounts of money on regularly changing style and I dont think it was long before she had it cut!

We could do with before and after pictures please!!!

Bit of not-needed-non-sense here but I used to live in Cheltenham, one of my sisters and her family still do :D

Before and after mmmmmmm photos of me are rare :)

I will stick with the results if they work :) I am not a fickle person ;)

LJS that price seems very expensive.  My friend got hers done earlier in the year and I think it was abotu £100 and that was at one of the top hair dresses in the UK. Alison Stewarts.

BUT I think if you want it done get it done.

ABout 17 years ago I paid £300 to get extensions ( twit I know) that was a fortune then but it took about 12 hours. I had to get them removed within 2 weeks as my head was killing me :-)

Would you believe, we were going shopping in Cheltenham today but hubby decided to play golf instead !.

Has this been a lucky escape for you I wonder ?!!!.
