help my dog live's outside and she eats her own poo not only that but she takes it in too the kennel with her and lies on it .she has never been told off for pooing so she is not scared of us and we have tryed changing her diet many times and adding pineapples. is there anthing we can do?

She could be bored if she spends all her time outside all alone :(

Why do you leave your dog to soil in a kennel?  Even if for you have good reason to keep her outside overnight, surely she should be out and about during the day and suitably exercised during which times she's able to defecate

I think it sounds like you need to spend more time with her out of the kennel environment and also ensure her kennel area is always cleaned immediately if she has any "accidents".  Regards, Teri

just to say i have 2 dogs and my eldest used to eat his own poo as a puppy, he then stopped and when we got our 2nd dog he went thru a stage of eatin his poo! we now have kittens and we have to stop him eatin the poo from the litter tray! He is fed well and is certainly not bored, when I sort advice I was told it was more common than you think and is not harmful, but was nott really offered any constructive advice,-lots of people dont want to admit their dogs do it! - maybe you should seek advice from a professional dog therapist rather than people on here that dont understand and are just slagging you off and not actually offering you any help at all Good luck and I hope you find someone to speak to that knows what they are talking about!

Actually, Bev, Teri's suggestion of having the dog spend more time out of the kennel is probably the best way to go - very sensible advice.

PS. The reason your dogs eat the cat poo is that cat poo is very high in protein, so (to a dog) is as attractive as its usual dinner.

it says she takes the poo into the kennel with her? not that it poos in the kennel or spends all its time in the kennel - we do not know what outside area it has to live in, it may have lots of area outside of its kennel,it could be free to roam and still take it into its kennel!  and  as much as I find it hard to understand having a dog living outside of the family home, some peoples circumstances may force this and just because this dog eats its own poo does not necessarily mean that it is either bored or unhappy! my dog certainly isn't but is still tempted!!

One of my dogs actually ate her poo be it .....occasionally but she still did it not ashamed of the fact what would be the point of that .
Sound to me like Teri gave some good  advice dogs dont poo that often that you cant clean up after them before they can get to it .
Try adding pineapple to thier food or being around and giving them a squirt with a water pistol when they attempt to eat it.
Someone else may come along with more info on the medical side of it  but it is quite common place and they do stop eventually.

MY cat tray is also a high point in my dogs life if they can get to it ! ! !
