Can you help?  We have just lost our beloved Vallhund after nearly 16 years and his young companion is pining for him desperately.

We would like to get one that is almost identical, it must have a tail, curly if poss and grey not red or white, we already have a white one.

We are based in Kent but we do not mind travelling for the right dog

Just out of total curiouisity here -do WHITE exist in the UK? (As the OP mentioned.) Only I'm Swedish so I have seen a few Västgötaspets as we call them (have never quite understood the UK "Swenglish" half translation, LOL!) and I just checked the Swedish breed standard and it basically mentions different shades of grey, red and brown. Just curious, that's all -I have actually never seen anything but grey at home in Sweden.

Apparently they produce the odd whites if they are collared with white, much like the boxer I believe.

No white on the body is allowed according to the Swedish standard though.

Yes you do get white vallhunds over here, you also get blues, lemons and long coats - you also get them in Sweden but they are not normally registered.

Up to one third white is permissable - it can be anywhere on the body but usually you get it on the chest, neck and feet.

You don't have to have white on the parents to get a white puppy - it's a genetic throw back but some lines are more prone to it than others.
