Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Dog fabric cage for shows

Hello, am trying to find a good quality water-proof fabric 'cage' for Pippin at shows, but alas, there seems to be none of the water-proof ones at the circuit and I dont know when anyone will be selling this type of cage again at the shows, can anyone suggest anywhere online that would sell them? water-proof is a must with all the bad weather!!
thanks, Carol :)

Hi Carol,
I've never seen a waterproof fabric cage before.  Have you thought about getting one of the waterproof covers that companies sell for the metal cages?
Just a thought,
Sarah.

we have a waterproof fabric crate for our bernese.  The stall we bought it at sells both normal fabric and waterproof fabric cages and we see them at most ch. shows.  The waterproof ones are a bit more expensive than normal ones but we thought it was worth the extra.  I cant remember what the stall is called but the tag on the crate says WWW.firstrax.net . I presume tht is the suppliers so you could try looking that up.  If no luck the stall is normally at SKC.

Thanks everyone for your help with the cage search! Roni and Fifi, the ones on the websites are just the type I was looking for, I think they are the same brand with a heavy duty base and the run down window shades. It does not say exactly if they are waterproof but I will contact them and find out!
Thanks again,
Carol :)

I brought one of these at LKA last year. Didn't advertise as waterproof but I can say after using it that it is.
The only thing i've done is give a spray of my waterproofing spray. The same that you buy for waterproofing ski jackets etc.
If you can wait, I would get one from a show as I brought mine for a good deal cheaper than those advertised. They were on offer but they normally are at shows. My only reservation. I'm lucky that my dogs just settle. A friend of mine had the same one and with one scrape from her dog ripped the webbing at the front which you can't really fix yourself. Just be warned. If your dogs are scratchers go for a metal cage with cover.

I agree with megan we have seen dogs unattended and they have rolled over in thier cages because they have a hissey fit when the owner leaves for a minute..... I prefer the crate myself.

I agree, I bought one for my boy and he ripped a hole in it. Annoying but I have had to go back to the metal ones and just put up with aching arms from dragging it around!!

Yes I've seen that. I still use a metal one for benched shows. As I've seen dogs launch forward and nearly put themselves on the floor. As you have to leave them if only for a call of nature, I feel safer using the metal for benchs and the fabric one for open shows where they are on the floor.
I'm embarassed to say that at one open show where all of a sudden the heavens opened, I actually sat in the cage with the dog (I have brought a very large one to hold both my dogs) OK All rep I previously had is now gone!!!!

I take a large cage big enough for my 2 beardies now......Megan I'm thinking of ex-large so that I can fit in it as well........I bet your pics on a few phones around the country !!!!    that did make me LOL...

I've just this minute unloaded mine from the car, having spent the weekend with friends.  My 9 month old hooligan Rough Collie slept in one at night with no problems.  I can see that they wouldn't contain a dog who didn't want to be there though.

Mine has been on the go since I saw them 3 years ago at Leeds and has survived two young BC's and yes they are definitely waterproof as I have showered mine when it needed cleaned up :D The only thing I miss about the metal cages is the fact that with a board on top i could groom on them. Now need a grooming table instead  :D

I have one from croft and a canine camper from berriewood, both hold my Irish boys well and are proven waterproof as at one open show we went to it was chucking it down and the wet weather tents were full of old ladies having tea parties with their little dogs spread out in their cages so I put up my fabric cage outside and chucked Alf in that, all I had to do was keep popping out to tip the water off the top but he didnt get wet at all :)

'the wet weather tents were full of old ladies having tea parties with their little dogs'       LOL so true!!!!! :D :D

That's why it must be waterproof at all costs!!! :D Cannot imagine a hairy soaking yankee going into the ring! but had not thought about the fact that maybe I should stick with the metal one until Pippin gets a bit older....or at least till hes finished teething.....all that nice colourful fabric to chew!!! :D Megan, why did I not thing of it! Next time it rains I shall join the dogs too if they leave me some space! Will save me bringing my wellies and water-proofs to shows! :D
