Topic Dog Boards / General / 1st and 2nd vaccinations?

Well I have contacted the breed club, found a really nice breeder that does all the relevant health checks, home raised etc. She also has the first vaccination done before purchase. However, I seem to remember with my last pup that the vet insisted that I had the both vaccinations done, including the first one again. This will put socialisation back and I am a bit concerned about the amount of dose given with this method. What is the best way to get around this. Insist to the vet she has only her second? Ask the breeder not to give it? Or go with the flow? Would really appreciate some advice. My vet has always been fantastic with any other visits I have made and I have no problem with them.

It depends if the first vet uses a different make of vaccine to the second. Personally I'd ask the breeder not to give the first jab, but wait for my own vet to do the complete course. If you're getting the pup at the usual 8 weeks-ish, then it won't make much difference.

I had my pup at 9 weeks and she had had her 1st jab done. What I did was to take the certificate to the vets with me so the second one could be done at 11 weeks and then she is now socialising at 12 weeks.  Also the vet could see what was administered in the 1st jab and she said it was no problem at all.
Hope this helps.
