Hi Guest

I'm in Northampton and hired one from my vet's, Rhodes in Kingsthorpe.  It was the citronella spray type and I used it to help with a barking habit.

Are you the same guest who asked this question last week for a dog who was barking at other dogs?  Using an aversive method like the Masterplus collar under these circumstances will only cause your dog to repress this reaction and introduce another way of expressing their feelings, and maybe even cause it to become agressive in the presence of strange dogs :( Please think very hard about what sort of behaviour you DO want from your dog around other dogs and train it to do this instead.

I have got one of these and used it and it has proven very effective.

I will and continue to use one of these to nip the little problems in the bud.

I know they are not to everyones taste but each to their own.

Please no arguements about them again but just saying what I think as I said each to their own opinions and methods.!!

It also depends in what situations you need to use one in.

That's very true, it depends on the dog, the situation, what type of behavior you are trying to modify and how ingrained that behavior is.

I support their use in SOME situations and with SOME dogs.  I actually have one in the cupboard, haven't used it for a few years now but sometimes it goes out on loan.

I have used it on dogs in the early days of behavior modification as an interruption or a diversion, giving the opportunity to train and reward an alternative behavior.  But only short use for a limited period only and as part of a wider modification programme.

It's not used as an aversive but as an interruption and must be coupled with positive training methods to be fully effective.
