My dog has had dysentery for approx 2 days, as he has a lot of coat this is a bit of a problem he has had a change of food which probably accounts for it but obviously i am watching him for other symptoms.  Any advice apart from starving him for 24 hrs and the usual rice and chicken, we are going away on friday with him and obviously want him in full health, is there anything else i can give him, animal or human?

What has the vet prescribed? If he's got dysentery he'll no doubt be getting very dehydrated, and he'll need special fluids if he's to avoid needing to be hospitalised on a drip.

I don't think you mean dysentery, as this is a very serious illness that needs medical help straight away. I think you probably just mean diarrohea (sp) .

This can be very serious if allowed to go on for too long. I usually starve my dogs for 24 hours, then give them natural yoghurt, if it is really bad, along with a bland diet. If it is just looser than normal I don't starve them but add the yoghurt to a smaller meal. If it doesn't start to clear up I then take them to the vet for something. I wouldn't try to treat it myself as it could be anything. Usually it happens because they have eaten something very nice and tasty, like a very dead animal

Sometimes probiotics help, but make sure you get it checked out by the vet. They are your best source of medical advice.
