i know there are lots of websites with these on but its often better to hear from 'real' people!!
can anyone recommend any nice doggy hotels for a short break in october. I live in kent, but could travel up to about 4 or so hours. Basically somewhere with lots of lovely countryside for nice walkies. I have a few books but often they 'accept' dogs, which is very different to actually welcoming them!!

The Holiday Inn take dogs, you can often get a good weekend short break deal.   We live in Kent and often go to the Peterborough one, there is a lovely country park with a lake nearby and we like spending some time having a wander around Cambridge, dogs have a sleep in the car (multi story there) while we have a nice lunch.

They have hotels in Cambridge, but the Peterborough one is cheaper.  We usually go bed & breakfast and either eat in the bar or have room service and share with the dogs :)

I live in Peterborough very near to Ferry Meadows (the local huge park) and also orton mere which is also great for dogs and has a lovely pub! There is also Rutland water just up the A1 for about 20mins and the beach is only 1 hour away. Our 2 love it. I used to live in Kent and peterborough is a lot flatter!!

Travelodge take up to 2 pets and are scattered all over the country.They also have the occassional offer on rooms via the website.

You can get a book called pets welcome, it lists all hotles and B+Bs that take dogs. Mine stays in the car as you never know when and where you are going to need it.

Might be a bit too far away for you but the most dog-friendly place I've ever stayed is The Coledale Inn, Braithwaite in Cumbria. Absolutely fantastic - they made me and my Siberians incredibly welcome. In addition, you can literally walk from the back door into the fells and just keep going! Just a short drive to Whinlatter Forest too.

Can't recommend it highly enough.

We stayed in a dog cottage in Grassington near Skipton. Again probably a bit far for you, but I can recommend the entire village as wonderfully dog friendly - bowls of water set out in the streets, and dogs allowed in nearly all cafes and restaurants too - quite overwhelming!

we have just been to Ambleside in lake District and if you could break up your journey would thouroughly recommend it.  very dog friendly town and lots of places to stay with dogs.  Walks are excellent and if your dog likes a swim no where better as far as I'm concerned.

If you have 4 hours get yourself over to germany, I think every hotel i Berlin Ihave stayed at accepts dogs
