What do you get???
I had a man phone me asking all the questions blah blah blah, he came to see babies then decided later that week he wanted a diff colour and then said he found a breeder and their pups were £300 cheaper than mine etc etc etc ( I fear he has found a puppy farm of some sorts) - seems to me he just wants a cheap dog and deosnt care about health testing or anything etc etc
MAKES ME MAD!!!!!! I said it is up to him where he buys from and told him he should be very careful, emailed him links about health probs in the breed etc but THE MIND BOGGLES!!!!!
perhaps this man was on a budget, and thought maybe you would come down on price.

no he said he didnt mind paying the 'average price' and he said he had done his research etc etc etc and already owns the breed so he should know how much you would expect to pay for a good specimin from a good breeder- maybe I am having an off day and just wnated a rant?

I had a chap like that! He phoned while the pups were about 7 weeks and asked the right questions, said he'd think about it, and I heard no more till the remaining two (one we wanted to keep, the other we were still prepared to sell) were 10 weeks old. That was when he asked if we had any left, (yes, one) and what the price had come down to??!!!

He seemed surprised when I explained that a vaccinated, halfway house-trained and lead-trained pup should actually cost more ... ;)
Anyway, we ended up keeping the second pup too. I wasn't going to sell him to anyone like that. I'd only been charging breed-average price in the first place!

oh dear - there are idiots out there - i also said to him that if I was happy with him he would have to leave a deposit, he sounded shocked and asked why a bankers draft when he came to pick the puppy up would not be good enough..... LOL he certainly tested my telephone manner

There was another who said he wouldn't be able to visit the litter, but he'd post a cheque and his son would pick up the puppy when he was in the area ... He simply couldn't understand there was no way I was going to sell a pup to someone I hadn't met.
I hate selling pups. It's a nightmare.
My husband has a very strong view on people who haggle over the price of puppies. He puts the phone down on them. I had someone who tried to tell me that there was someone who was selling their puppies £200 cheaper and he only wanted a pet so didnt see why he should pay more. I told him to go and buy one if he was that concerned about money. I know where he was buying from and the puppies are bred and raised in stable whereas mine are bred in the house and are very well bred. I paid £450 for my Purdy 6 years ago so I dont think a increase of £100 in 6 years was excessive. I would sooner keep the puppy myself or give it to a friend rather than sell them cheap.

I to will not have any truck with hagglers, the price is the price as gfar as I am concerned. As far as I am concerned the price is a fair reflection of the costs and a little to cover my expenses of keeping my dogs.

i think if people are serious they will have done their research as know an average price - i saved for a few months for my male but i knew what a rough price was and saved a bit more just incase - it is frustrating because puppy producers extrodinaire sell them cheap and if people buy they ust keep producing.... tut

I can't help thinking that someone who wants a 'knockdown price' on a puppy just sees it as another commodity :( not the ideal owners IMHO

I find alot of people say ... you got any dogs for sale how much , It puts me straight off Id much rather them say have you any puppies left .. what colour /sex have you got are they health tested .
I can now understand why people do put the price up ive seen that these idots ring up for pups they dont seem interested in anything other then cheapness ... then phone back saying they had seen a litter somewhere else which was cheaper
( probably the local puppy farm) but they dident have any bitches so they will strech a little further to the average price
The perfect way to put people of whos first question is how much is to double the price! When we bought Purdy I asked about her colour, pedgiree, hearing test status and eventually I settled on asking the price. The people who buy my puppies are the type of people who want a good quality puppy and not the bargain basement kind. There is someone in our area selling her puppies at less than half the price that I sold mine at and mine were all sold at 3 weeks.
The sort of people that sell their puppies much cheaper than 'good' breeders generally have many more litters from 1 bitch than we think is acceptable and don't worry about health screening. My puppies are all the same price whether they are a pet or for show. If people want the support after purchase they will pay that little extra a buy from a good breeder.
i had a good one on friday , " got any dash-hounds for sale ....... how much discount for 2 pups & cash" ?
Selling puppies is a minefield to say the least! I am constantly bombarded with emails which say "am interested in you pup for sale, pls email me current condition, photo and selling price" needless to say they are deleted immediately, must be idiots out there who do communicate with these people, i suppose they are trying to export them for god knows wot.
You HAVE to meet the people and like them and more importantly, feel that in your heart you have let your precious puppies go to good kind loving homes. As for people who haggle over price - if they want a cheap dog, then good luck, probably wont have any helath tests, etc etc and no support after sale either. You certainly dont make any money as most people seem to think which shatters their illusions somewot.

Why is it so unreasonable for someone to initially contact you by email asking those questions? I don't understand that. Obviously yes, they do need to come and meet you, but is it not acceptable to have initial information by email?

This particular phrase: "am interested in you pup for sale, pls email me current condition, photo and selling price" seems to apear in emails that are part of a money laundering scam.

OIC :( Wouldn't have realised that.

Most breeders are too fond of their puppies to want to sell them to someone who gives the impression that they're of no more emotional importance than a new fridge ...

Can beat that, local paper had Labrador pups for sale and apparently both parents had "hit an iced cord"
Can only assume this was rung through!

I DON'T GET IT?????

Should be Hip and Eye Tested, but many people will say Hip and Eye scored :D

That bugs me in adverts - they may have been tested (and scored) but where the results good for the breed?
I can imagine that for breeders it is very difficult, but I am too looking for a pup, have emailed lots of breeders, no reply, telephoned them, not having any till later in the year, and my list is full.
I have had dogs all my life, work in rescue,( dont get pups often). will give this pup a loving home, insure it, give a vet reference if one is required, anything it needs (medical) it gets,I am prepared to pay for the pup,I understand that health checks have to be done, but at every turn I meet a brick wall.
I am prepared to wait, but have to admit I can now see why these puppy outlets do so well, if I wasnt the person I am, I can see why these puppy farms get the custom that they do.I hate them and we in rescue are battling against them all the time.
So I have to carry on and just hope that maybe one day someone will put me on their list, and maybe one day I will be lucky....
