My daughter has a new computer - fine- but her old one is now cluttering up our spare room. :-( 1: OH  can't remember how to clear the hard drive... and 2: what do we do with it? It still works and we'd like it to go to charity or a good home, but most of the recycling sites for PCs seem to be for businesses upgrading, not for home users. Please can some-one help? It's a Celeron computer, by the way.

Short of destroying the hard drive it will always have a memory, so if anything like bank details are on it I would suggest a screwdriver through the middle. There are a few companies/ charities that may be interested or you could use it as your network or internet server :)

There a couple of programs you can use to clean your hard drive with military strength protection. Info on evidence eliminator can be found Here and a programme i've found to be good is cyberscrub, which exceeds US Dept of Defense standards, and can be found Here.
HTH :)

Why not fit the hard drive in the new computer. You can have more than one and it would give her more disk space.
