We are thinking of changing our car and were going to go for a slightly more powerful engine if we could afford it as well as air-conditioning (currently have a 1.2 and have quite honestly been perfectly happy with this). The dealer has got pretty much what we want but a 1.2 64bhp. The 1.4 is 75bhp and he says there will be little difference because it is only 11bhp. If this actually makes any sense to anyone is he right or just trying to sell the car. We could afford this one and it is what we want in every other way.
Thanks!!

There will probably be a little difference the 1.4 will probably pick up speed quicker and be just that little bit nippier but in all honesty it most probably won't be a greatly noticeable difference. If its everything you want go for it :D
I agree with Voors, the 1.4 will have a heavier engine, which is why there is only 11 bhp in it. What car is it?
Thank you! Just have to persuade my partner to part with the cash now!!
It's a Skoda Fabia Estate. We have one at the moment which has been great and I don't think we could get much better for our budget, it seems to be a lot cheaper than other similar cars and actually has a VW engine.
Anyway advice is much appreciated!
They are really good cars, just people cant get past the badge. Personally I would go for the VW 1.9 TDI, great fuel economy and respectable performance. But then Im a bit of a girl racer given half a chance :D
By all accounts the Skoda's are very good cars now! I say go for it, and get your OH to get his plastic out!!! ;) :P

The 1.4 will have more grunt at lower rpm but when you put the air-con on that will drop the bhp a little and increase fuel intake.
I would go for the 1.4 just because it will handle the hills and motorway driving a little better than a 1.2. It also depends on the gearing as well to your power output. Test drive both and see how you feel about each car.
