hi my dog has been in labour all nite, she has had 5 pups(average for breed) but im not sure if shes finished or not...shes not a vocal girl and didnt show hardly any of the signs i was told to look out for, she didnt push at all and breathed through birthing them and she didnt want to birth them at all because i think she thought she was in trouble for the mess! the first one was nearly born in the garden!! im sure i can feel something in there but hubby doesnt think so she is settled now but was settled in between pups?? any help or advice is really appreciated....im reluctant to drag her and her pups to vets unless i have to and vet wont come out.

I always insist my vet calls on me to check both pups and mum over once I think they have finished.  Christmas last year I thought she had, as she settled down with her new family.  Vet called on us 2 hours later to my shock she had retained a dead pup, luckily another oxytocin injection and the dead pup was born without the need of a c-section.

Give your vet a ring and ask them to call on you if you are unsure.  But I certainly wouldn't take them into surgery, far too many germs for my liking!!
