Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Day 48 and wondering about cleaning!

This is my first litter on the way and though we are very prepared, I've realised that I don't know how to clean out the new pups.
I've read that soon after the birth it's a good idea to clean out the whelping box but surely all the pups and my girl will be lying in there propbably very tired.
Do I clean around them, do I move them? I've collected lots of newspaper so do I just try to put more over. Obviously, I proper clean seems best. I would be very grateful for any advice.

When whelping's finished, put the bitch on her lead and make her go outside for a wee/poo (she'll probably be very reluctant to go. Be firm). This is when someone else moves the pups into a clean box to change everything in the whelping box. Burn the soiled papers, put in fresh ones and some clean vetbed on top. Replace pups and allow mum back in to settle with them.
:)

thanks a lot. I've been thinking about it for a while and it's a relief to finally get it.
