This is why you should always use a stud dog especially first time who knows what he's doing and also the owner knows what they are doing.

Do their pedigrees go together well?  Do you know their lines and are you sure that there are no hereditary problems in either line which could be doubled up?

A friends dog didn't tie and she has a litter of 8 which is big in the breed soyou could still have pups.

hi yep I checked out both of their pedigree's first...didn't go in to it without doing research. He compliments her floors perfectly. both good and healthy with no hereditory problems. He keeps on checking her(and a quick lick) but then walks off. maybe her scent is different since they did it. also they did it at day 8 and 9 so maybe too early?

HI DEbbie...females will stand well before ovulation..i run serum progesterone on mine which pinpoints ovulation most of mine wiill stand several days prior to ovulation and most don't ovulate until day 12-14 though that can vary from dog to dog..the eggs must go through several division before they are ready to be fertilized so i breed mine only once one or two days post ovulation..and they concieve ...i think you still have time i would seperate them today and try putting them together later tonite or in the morning

Usually the bitch goes to the stud, not the other way around. He may not want to mate in unfamiliar  surroundings -some don't.

i know the bitch usually goes to the stud but the owner was going away(with it being the summer holidays) so we had to have the stud here instead. didn't stop him doing it the other day. have tryed keeping them in separate pens ... will try again in separate rooms. thanks for the advice

So the stud dog's owner isn't there? You do have someone there who's used to handling a stud dog, haven't you?

would the bitch still stand if she has been caught?

Oh yes! Litters with pups sired by different fathers aren't uncommon ...

I've found with my boys that it's almost like they get bored of a bitch. Try keeping them completely apart then he may be keener when they meet, also if you put a lead on the bitch and run away from the dog...mine always enjoy a chase :)
