My 2 bitches are in heat at the moment, I have also got a male dog a brother of the 2. The male dog mated with his sister and we got her the morning after injection of which she had her second dose last night. In the middle of the night I was woken up and found my male dog tied with the female dog again. Should the injection work or do i need to take the dog back to the vet again for another one?
Why the hell do you still have them in the same house if there has already been one accident - if you can't separate them ship the male out until the bitch is out of season and get them neutered! I have no idea about the injection as I have not had to get it done before - call your vet!

It makes you wonder how many accidental matings have taken place that you haven't witnessed. I agree totally with Enfielrotts that they should be kept apart.

Why on EARTH aren't they properly separated???? Everyone can have a mistake happen ONCE, but twice -no way! The inejctions CAN at times actually cause pyometra, so I'd imagine it is very inadvisable to have a second one done! I don't know for certain what the outcome now will be, but I'd imagine that either the bitch is pregnant now, with healthy pups but to her brother!, OR she is pregnant with puppies that may have deformities caused by the injection. Best bet has to be to wait for the seasons to finish and then take BOTH bitches to be spayed! And how do you know the OTHER bitch hasn't been mated as well?

We have been keeping them apart, just obviously not good enough. This has been our first season and it has been an experience.
We will be getting the boy neutered in a week or two I couldnt go through this again
I am glad you are getting him seen to - you have to keep them apart completely, you should have learnt from the first mistake, its very unfair! You must speak to your vet about this, I know that the injection has ben developed and has a low risk of causing the dangerous infections pyometra however you need to keep an eye on her as this infection takes over very quickly and can be deadly!
I would have a chat with the vet, see what he suggeses and keep us updated, I am sure somone will be able to answer any further questions you have. I would get the dog out of the house or make sure they are seperated 100% of the time - can a friend prehaps have your boy whilst the seasons are going on?
from what my vet told me when we had an accidental mating, and the injections my bitch had, if just one mating took place then the bitch would need 2 morning after injections,3 days after the mating and the second injection 2 days later. if there were any further matings then the bitch would need another injection and so on, i am sooooooo glad my bitch was not pregnant and the injections worked, i took her for a scan at 4 weeks and it showed nothing, if she was found to be pregnant then there is another injection the bitch can have to terminate the pregnancy, in my case both dogs were not related, where your's are, if it was me i would take the dog back for another injection.
