My affie is just past one year old and no matter what I do he loses it when he see's another dog when I take him for walks.. He barks like mad and I do not exist because his focus is not on me. I try to make him sit but he justs scwocks and screeches because I am stopping him, I get embarrased because of the noise he makes. When he gets to meet the dog he is friendly and there is no aggression it is all noise.I am in the process of taking a water bottle with me so I can spray him when he starts. Has anybody had the same problem and how do I sort it.

He walks lovely and does not pull or cause a rumpus normally only at the site of another dog. Also any ideas on getting him to come back when he is of the leash I try to let him of the leash as much as possible but he really does not focus on me.HELP

I take him to ringcraft classes where he does some obedience and he is good at it just need to get him to focus on me

Thanks for your help

I am having the exact same problem with my young boxer but she does it to people as well as other dogs and unfortunately she is not friendly when introduced to them.

I have tried everything but to no avail at the moment.  I am also in the process of trying a water pistol on her (sorry folks but even the animal behavourist can't help).  It has stopped her on a couple of occassions but she now just thinks it a source of drinking water for her and comes up to it and sucks on it now.

I am also in the process of trying a herbal help called calm-a-pet.  She has only been on it for three days and she does calm down directly after her meal as she now sleeps instead of tearing around like a mad thing so i suppose if nothing else she will actually begin to put on some weight.  She will be two in November and is a rescue dog.

I had a dog like this. It took a good few weeks but I did sort it out. I started off walking far away from other dogs so that he could just about see them in the distance. If he saw any and was quiet, I praised a LOT. If he made a noise, I ignored it and moved further away.  Slowly, slowly over a period of time we would move closer and closer, until he was finally able to be right next to other dogs without barking or growling. The one thing to really avoid is any kind of punishment or shouting when a dog does this, as they will then associate other dogs with unpleasant experiences which will make it all worse, or if you start shouting, they think you agree with them and are joining in. :)
