In june I purchased a white german shepherd puppy, my first, always having had black and tan.

He is now 18 weeks old, this is going to sound very silly , but, his ears seem very reluctant to go up. am I being a bit to early, as I am sure my other dogs ears were up by now.

I'm sure you can tape them to go up, but someone else will have to tell you how to do it.  I'm sure you use card board and tape the ears upright, but to be honest i haven't got a clue with germans shephards.  I'm sure someone else will give you some advice.

Warm regards Susan

Im getting really confused by these 'dont feed troll' warnings -- so many of them seem to be on completely INNOCENT posts!

Guest, you can tape or you can glue, id recommend whichever your dog finds the least irritating. Ears can take a while and teething can affect ear carriage. If you google for 'gsd ear gluing' you will find plenty of results.

Guest, Black & Tan Gsd's, or white, makes absolutely NO difference to ear erection ;)

Glueing, taping and all other kinds of motivations will not make the ears stand to attention ;)

IME, chewing has a certain amount of influence, ie, normally, when the pup is teething, they chew more,  hence the erection of ears. Nothing more endearing than a GSD with crossed ears, when this happens you assume that they are teething. BUT, take nothing for granted.

I have had experience of a pup that came from a very good Kennel, but no matter how hard she chewed, nothing would make her left ear stand to attention. So I had a cock eared dog, did it matter? NO, she wasn't ever going to be showed anyway and it didn't detract me from loving her and her wonderful personality.

Of course, he still has time for his ears to go up, but if they don't, then live with it. Unless of course you have bought him as a show dog.....then that's a whole different story

HTH :)

Hi there

I have 2 GSD`s one is 7 and the other only 13 weeks.   Kizzy the eldest has one ear up and one down but she looks so endearing, the puppy though had his ears up when I viewed him a 7 weeks!!! I couldnt believe it, the only one out of the litter of 10.  When I actually took him home at 9 weeks they were floppy again. Just after a week they were up and have been up ever since.   am sure that at 18 weeks you still have plenty of time.  They are gorgeous whatever their ears are like, as someone previously mentioned if you are not intending to show..what the heck.
Regards
Maureen
