I recently treated my 15 week old pup with a free sample from the vet of frontline. I am not convinced it has worked. He is still scratching a lot. My friend saw flea dirt on him but we have not spotted fleas. The treatment was given 5 days ago. He scratches around the collar and around the thigh of the back leg. Has anyone else had this experience with frontline? What should I do now? I did ring the vet for advice but the receptionist tried to find a phone number for frontline but there isnt one and just sugested waiting a while.

I bout a £28 bottle and it didnt work, went back to the vets who insisted it was just a dud bottle. They replaced it but the 2nd bottle still didnt appear to work after 24hrs there were still live flea bugs. Since then i have used stronghold and lots of garlic in their food. Being in a area where everytime i walk them they are picking them up i need something that works and im never going to use frontline again!

I have used the Spray for years and have never had any fleas.  My oldest is flea alergic and used to get Hot spots because of this in the summer.

She has some for the first time this eyar as I weas late frontlining them in the spring and did them with the Spot on in May, I don't think the spot on is as effective, but have always found the spray to be so, so much so that I no longer bother with a household spray.

Do you have Cats.  if so I suggest that they need doing and the house with one of the sprays that sterilises the fleas in the environment.  Once this is doen the Frontline will work fine on the dogs.  It does say it kills most of the fleas within 24 hours, so if tey are being reinfected you will see live fleas.

We used the household stuff and did the cats at the same time, thing is as soon as i went to stronghold it worked. Frontline kills whats there but doesnt seem to continue working effectively.

You do realise that Stronghold uses a derivative/relative to Ivermectin that should not be used on collie type dogs, as they are sensitive to it and it can kill them.

Hi June,

I've used Frontline for years on my cats adn it has worked fine.  We recently bought a puppy and our vet automatically uses something called Advocate for the first couple of months to kill all bugs includign fleas, worms, mites etc.  Our vet has then recommended we go on to Drontal every three months - which I think is for fleas and worms, but I could be wrong.  Interesting to hear that frontline doesn't always work as I'd automatically use it on the dog as it's worked for the cats.........
