Hi I have a six month old yellow Labrador bitch who has nearly finished teething (I hope) the problem is that one of her top front canine teeth as not fallen out it's still in there at the side of her new one and has gone discoloured and it's in there firmly.

It's not causing her any problems other then food and stuff is getting stuck between them both, will it eventually fall out do you think or will it mean a trip too you know who?

I know this happens in toy breeds but I have never seen it in the larger breeds, in toy breeds they normally fall out by themselfs around about the 7 months mark, well mine did anyway.

Anyone got any advice?

Thanks

I had the same problem with my girl, her big canine came through but her baby tooth was still in there, it eventually turn grey/black and dropped out of its own accord.

Keep brushing the teeth to prevent decay from any stuck food.

I would keep an eye on it and if it hasnt fallen out within the next few weeks take her to the vets and they can remove it.

Some nice tasty bones may help to dislodge it too :d

Nice BIG tasty bones with meaty bits and gristle :D that tooth will soon be out :D
OOH also a raggy knotted thingy to play pull and tug of war, they're also very good :)

Many thanks for your replies I do give her Kangs and rubber rings to play with and she makes a right noise running up and down the living room when I am trying to relax with a glass or two of wine of a evening LOL.

I not sure about the bones as she is very greedy, she's not a lady when it comes to food.

The rugger (raggy knotted thingy) sounds a good Idea she has had 2 of these in the past but distroys them very quickly getting another could be a good idea, and this maybe a cheaper and healthier option then a visit too the vets?

My vet is very good but I don't like taking them can't bare to see them suffer even for a needle.

Again many thanks

My Cav puppy had extra canines until 8 months old, so I would try the advice re chewy things and bones before rushing to the vet and spending money!!

Just a warning don't ever leave the ragger with her, I've known dogs die with part of them which have become stuck in dogs intestines etc.

Try and get a nice big marrowbone.  Again never leave her with it.  Good luck :d

To be honest I'd go with the marrowbone first ;)  she will find it far more interesting and will settle down and chew for britain (which is what you want really) as far as chewy things are concerned I find the bigger the better, most toys and chewys are bought too small to last, my old dog (sadly no longer with us) was Bedlington sized but we always gave him chews for a Dobermann sized dog, anything else was just not going to last more than a few minutes to an hour   I do the same with the Bedlingtons, they have huge bones and kongs :D

Hi Just a Quick update, I have given her the biggest knuckle bone I could get from our local butcher and she spent most of yesterday chewing on it, but it's still in there with no signs of becoming loose.

She as been given the bone again this morning so fingers crossed.

I also got an extra bone for my older bitch who is having a Phantom at the moment, and this is helping to keep her mind of things, so if nothing else they are enjoying them selfs for a few hours.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

Don't forget it isn't going to fall out immediately ;) but the enthusiastic chewing that a nice juicy bone encourages will move things in the right direction :)  it'll happen after a few days chewing ;)  Lucky dogs :D :D

Hi,

I have a update on my young pups tooth, it has at last fell out BUT THE ROOT HAS STAYED IN and has left a sharp piece sticking out.

The big knuckle bone was very much enjoyed but did not loosed the tooth, she was playing with her rubber ring when the tooth shot across the floor, I thought Brilliant untill I had a look in her mouth.

Anyway my Q's is will this last bit come out by its self or will it need to be taken out by my vet, it's still in there very firmly?

I have a feeling it will be a trip to the vet, LOL.

Thanks

Hi

Another update, we had to take our young girl to the vets this morning to have what was left of her tooth taken out there was no way it would have come out on its own.

She's doing well but feeling very sorry for her self I think its more the fact she had to miss her breakfast than the operation LOL.

Anyway lets hope that will be the end of it?
