I have two staffs a four month old bitch and a 14 month old dog. I am thinking of getting the bitch spayed as we do not intend to breed from her and with an entire male in the house it seems rather risky. My dog is a very frisky litttle thing and is already becoming more and more interested in her by the day. She gets pretty upset by this as she just wants to play with him but he has other ideas.
I would appreciate your opinions on the best age to have her spayed and whether it is best to have it done before or after her first season.
All comments are much appreciated.

A bitch can be spayed before her first season at 6 months of age. If your boy is causing problems why not get him done as his behaviour is not fair on her.

I would not normally recommend speying prior to at least 12 months preferably 18 months of age as those hormones are there for a purpose. However if you cannot separate your dogs reliably for 3 weeks twice a year then the best option is to spey early to avoid costly errors...............
Could you explain more on why you wouldn't get them done till that late please, I have a 6 month old Staffy not yet in season but was going to get her done after her first season.
Thanks Lorna
