I have recently sent my dog to sire my brothers bitch.  My dog is KC registered and a working style black labrador. My brothers dog is also working style but we have just discovered that she is registered with the Dog Lovers Club.  I was really keen to take one of the pups but am now a little put off as the pup can not be KC registered.  Am I being silly to be concerned over registration?  I had intended to take a bitch and allow her to have one litter before being spayed, but is it worth doing so if I can't KC register the pups?

Don't do it.  Your brothers bitch may as well not ahve any registration as there is no verifiable record of ancestry kept by this organisation, you may as well print your own registrations.

Labradors are the most overbred breed in this country so inless you are breeding for the benefit of the breed. The pair should be outstanding workers and should at the very least be hip scored and eye tested under the BVA/KC schemes for screening against inherited disease.

There are many hundreds of even quite wel bred labrador pups going through resuce each year.

I sugest you read the first post under breeding on this forum and this link should give some food for thought too

I assume that since you didn't check registrations you didn't do any health tests? I wouldn't take one of these pups and I would also make sure that you inform any potential owners that they have not been hip scored, elbow or eye tested.

Good to see you have done your research and also you have a good communication with your brother

Yet more Labs that potentially may end up in rescue :(

Do you not realise the problem with unwanted pups/adults and also Labs that are bred without relevant health tests ?

Too late now but wise up and I hope the bitch hasn't caught for everybodies sake.

If she was only mated recently I suggest you take her to the vets for the morning after injection....irresponsible breeding in labs is out of control(as in many breeds) and the no's of unregistered untested labs does not need adding to
