I was suprised to discover my mini wirehaired dachshund was pregnant. The happy father is my mini smooth haired dachshund. There was no apparent sign that she was in season and I didn't witness them mating.
Could anyone tell me whether the pups will be classed as Pedigree?
Hi are both your dogs pedigree if so you will be able to register the litter. your dogs arent brother and sister are they? just a thought as you didnt say in your post oops sorry i misread your post someone will be along to tell you

I have been asked why this post has not been removed or edited as an advert. For the record, it has been allowed to remain at this time because the 'breed' is relevant to the question in hand. If you have any questions, please PM me and do not add them to this thread. Do not reply to this post, because it will be removed in due course.

I believe (but am happy to be corrected!) that mini wires and mini smooths are technically two different breeds, so the pups cannot be registered. Also as you didn't witness the mating you don't know for sure if your male dachshund is the father - you'd need DNA tests.
Harvey is definately the father, they are not allowed out unsupervised, even in the garden, so no doubt there. I think the dirty deed must have taken place under the cover of darkness in the kitchen!! They have certainly kept this to themselves as neither has shown any interest in each other while they have been with me.
to be honest i dont think you can register them. coz wat could you register them as??? wires or smooths. coz you cant register some as smooths and some as wires as youle prob get a mix. i could be wrong ! but i rearly dont think you will be able to sorry! :(
jg thats a point that ,thats something that i didnt think of. :) is there any possible chance that another dog may have got to her?????
if she is definatly pregnant has she been eye tested? coz its a must with dacs! :)
I would of thought that they couldn't be registered too unfortunately.

No, as others have already said...you won't be able to register them I'm afraid, but assuming your dog is the sire they'll still make delightful pets. It's a bit late to worry about eye tests etc though! I would recommend having one of your dogs neutered in the future...they're obviously very sneaky :)
Thank you all for your replies. I think, as advised, that the pups would be classed as mixed breed altho, the parents are both dachs. but different types of. I am sure the pups will be beautiful too. Yes it is my intention to get them both "done", I should have dealt with this issue before now but have been in and out of hospital for the last few months. I think Harvey will be meeting up with the vet next week tho! Thank you all again. x
ive pmd you oliversmum! :)
Hi I was at a dachsie seminar earlier in the year when we were told that you could no longer register puppies sired by a different variety of dachshund.
Hi. Thank you so much for the info. Glad to have got this cleared up. At least the pups are going to look like dachs tho and no doubt will be ab. fab.

No as the mating of the different varieties of Daxhsunds has not been allowed for a long time. They are classed as seperate breeds. Technically the pups will be crossbreeds, but they will at least be predicatable re size and bosy structure, just the coats willb e a surprise.
Thank you also for your response. Indeed it will be interesting to see what their coats will be!
