Our puppy, which we pick up next weekend has had it's first innoculation, using the product Nobivac. The second jab must be with the same product I think.

Am I right in this assumption ?

I now have to find a local vet that also uses this product, but If I can't, I'll just take the pup to the breeder's own vet, a couple of hours drive away, but no big deal really.

I'm sure I'll find one local though locally. The vet who we are going to use for other matters doesn't use Nobivac, but I'm sure any vet would be willing to give the jab, and that's all.

I understand this vaccine means I'll be able to take the dog out earlier than with conventional innoculation vaccine.

Is this right ?

The breeder was telling me, but with excitemant and all that .. I don't think I took everything in properly.

Any advice would be appreciated.

With dalmatians the sooner socialisation can begin the better

KInd regards !!!

The main reason for giving the same vaccine is to ensure that the pup isn't over vaccinated.  Often what happens is that the vet will start the vaccination course again if he doesn't use the same vaccine meaning the pup is getting more vaccine.  Many people myself included worry about the riks of over vaccination but agree that vaccines are needed.  This is the reason I prefer not to send a pup part vaccinated from here.  They either get done by their new owners if they leave before 10 weeks or if not leaving until later then I will get both done.

They keep changing their minds about the vaccination time scale, but the last time I spoke to my vet about this I was told Nobivac at 8 weeks and then at 10 weeks and then the puppy can go out normally at 11 weeks. I have so far routinely used Nobivac for the first vacc before puppies go to their new homes. I must admit that one vet got his knickers in a twist and gave the new owners all sorts of grief until he finally realised that it was the "proper" 1st vacc the pup had been given, not just the temporary breeders shot that some big kennels use. Nobivac is widely used, and even a vet who uses a different brand should be able to get hold of it given a bit of notice. I would suggest you talk to your breeder and find out exactly when the first jab was given and when they advise the second one is due, then talk to your own vet and see what you can arrange.

Wishing you a happy time with your new pup!

Jane.
