Thanks - I've found the books, but there are no write-ups on any of them. I am assuming they are "doggy" stories?
They are about Sheilas life with her guide dog Emma, who is a chockie lab and has her own take on the role :D They are very funny and at times moving. Sheila eventually has an operation that restores her sight, so Emma becomes a pet and the first of many chockies.
I was put on to the books by a friend who is blind and had a very badly behaved guide dog (for a guide dog) and used to say that he was far worse than Emma. Mind you she could tell you some stories, she worked in a big city company and was fiercly independent and one day when her boss was out her dog opened his office fridge and punctured the cans of beer with his teeth. Resulting in one drunk dog and them both having to be put in a taxi to get home. Dont you just love a dog with personality?

Thanks for that Bluebell. They sound wonderful. I don't suppose you know what "order" they run in do you? Thanks a lot :)
If I remember rightly it is Emma & I, Emma VIP, Emma & co, After Emma. I think that some of them may be out of print, but your public library should be able to help.
And if you like funny books about people and cats try any of the ones by Deric Longden, they should not be red in public as you cant help sniggering. He also wrote Lost for wods about his mother and Dianas story about his wife, equally funny but less about cats.

Just been reading this post - I read these books a long time ago as a child and I absolutely loved them. These books definitely touched me as I have remembered them so well. The bit I will always remember is when Sheila regains her sight and finds out what clothes well meaning friends suggested she wear - she thought the colours were hideous!! I would love to read them again, especially now that I am a dog owner myself. Brought back happy reading memories!! :-D
