Hi, We have just got a Springer Spaniel who was a rescue and he is 18 months old. He is very good with basic commands but recall is a nightmare. I have today purchased a line so i can let him have a little run but i was wondering if anyone knows of any enclosed safe fields in hertfordshire where i can let him off without worrying that im never going to see him again??

No advice as to where to go I'm afraid....just wanted to say congrats on your new addition - enjoy! :-) :-) :-)
Good choice by the way! ;-)

Frizbe,

If you've just got the dog why should he come back to you??   Try letting him settle in to your home and routine and helping him to feel secure before you try taking him anywhere off lead ;)   Once he's coming to you in the house reliably you can try calling him from the garden and rewarding/praising him.  Don't forget that at 18 months he's a teenager and his hormones are more important than any recall ;)  this is possibly why he was in rescue ;)

If you haven't already got it Gwen Bailey's  THE PERFECT PUPPY book will be a godsend, also The Rescue dog/Adopt the Perfect Rescue Dog by Gwen Bailey a review of which can be found here

Hope this helps
Regards
Dill

Good for you.  Our springer was a rescue that we got when she was four.  She was a lovely, kind dog and we miss her terribly.  You are in for years of happy times with your new fellow.  Congrats.
