I own 2 dogs both cross bred and both nuetured, one is a small lab x and the other is ?????? he is the same size as a Parson JR terrier.
Both are nice natured. They are a dog & a bitch, after asking on CD what would be the best mix to live together as I already had the bitch, you advised a dog
and you were right they get on very well together.
I am now thinking of buying a new puppy to show, I would love a toy poodle but I feel my two might be to much for a toy breed, and as I also like the miniature poodle Im thinking of going for this size.
My questions are
What do you think about the size thing, should I go for a toy or miniature.
What sex should I get, I would prefure a bitch as I may like to breed someday,
but harmany in the home is important to me.

Looking forward to any replies.

I love poodles, any shape or size. Currently, we have 2 (one rehomed, one rescued).
One is a minature - can walk for hours (if she wants to), likes to run with the big dogs when she's out with the dog walker, is up for anything, bosses our friends' spinone around and still manages to cuddle up on my lap of an evening. The second in a toy - also very game, but doesn't go for the long walks, is far more of a lap dog (or should i say, sofa dog), loves to play and is very affectionate, but is noisier than any miniature we've ever had. We also tend to get tripped up by him rather more, as he's so much smaller than what we're used to - and he's on the large side for a toy! Both love eating, and they love rolling in the mud, digging and rummaging around in the bushes. Our garden has never looked worse, and the miniature just discovered how she could eat tomotoes straight off the plant this week.
I'd think that the miniature size poodle would be perfect sizewise for your other dogs, and would definately be able to keep up with all thier activities too.
I love to hear of people choosing poodles!
I have 4 toy poodles and had 1 miniature. The toys are very definitely noisier than the miniatures - far more exciteable - but then we do agility with ours so just as well!
I do believe though that in poodles, colour has a big bearing on temerament. Blacks tend to be calmer natured, while whites, creams and apricots can be more sensitive and highly strung - just mho.
My poodles bound around with the largest of dogs - collies gsd's, you name it - I think that so long as a dog is socialised, size isnt an issue - and when it comes to rough and tumble, the little uns just get out of the way quicker!
best of luck with whatever you decide.

Hi I Have toys , who have mixed with SBT, skye terriers, Cats and now French bulldogs, ( our most recent bitch was adored by our frenchie male, and she'd run circles round him!!)
I always recommend poodle males as first time poodle owners, as dogs can be much more calm and get on better than dogs- yes poodle can be randy, but not agressive with it..
If you're think of show, Black or brown or white are the best choices, I have silvers and they're not easy to compete with, although we'd welcome you with open arms to the colour in the show ring ( ther's about 4/5 regularly show )
A toy is 11" a, miniature is over 11"but under 15" so measure your dogs , look about what actives you do, ( Keeping a poodle in show coat, while with other breeds can be a nuisance - ear fringing, bathing, drying, and general grooming .
