I am a Owner of a 4 month Dogue De Bordeaux & wish to give him Optimum nutrition but am confused as to what? Is Raw feeding the way forward for us? I am currently giving him 'Nutro' large breed puppy food (dry) Please advise me.

There are many thoughts on what is the best to feed raw/complete etc.

But basically I'd go on what suits your dog and what they do well on.
All dogs are different what suits mine may not suit yours.

I've fed various complete's, can't do raw as don't have the freezer space/room to do it.
Nor can do daily trips to the butcher to be able to feed raw.

:)

Id go with raw, but then i feed raw to all my dogs.

What i WOULD do, whichever you choose is take him OFF large breed puppy. These foods frequently cause pups to grow too fast and thats bad for his joints/muscles etc (and him!).

Raw feeding makes for slower growing puppies (it also gives them a good outlet for all that chewing they are programmed to do!).

Actually the large breed puppy foods have reduced/adjusted nutrient levels for large and giant breeds in order to address the problem of good but slow growth, and are designed to prevent over nutrition.

I would also agree with Brainless - I was told by my Vet to feed my puppy GSD a puppy food suitable for LARGE DOGS to slow down rapid growth.

Before i picked up my puppy, i checked out lots of different food options and most of the puppy foods protein levels were still higher than what i had been recommended to stick to. Even in large/giant puppy food!! I decided to go raw.
