Thanks to everyone that has replied. I was happy with the pups, they were beautiful. Very healthy coats etc.
The breeder showed me all the KC reg for the mother and father of the pups. The breeder had the Grandmother of the mother. This time they weren't keeping any of the 8 pups.
But having thought about it (how stupid I am!) the breeders did not once mention any health checks for the mother and father, and didn't say anything abot the parents of the pups being eye tested. What shall I do about this??
They did go out to a stud dog, which was KC reg etc. But the thing she said was when they got there to where the stud dog lived, it looked to them like a puppy farm! Why use a stud from there then??
The pups have champs in their line though.
Sorry to keep going on, but I am so worried and got myself in such a state, I just don't want to get this wrong. I want a healthy pup.
Thanks everyone

Do register - it costs nothing and then you can keep asking questions.

So they've produced the litter to sell? Not a good start!

Not stupid at all!! The average family buys a puppy every 15 or so years. BUT it's not straightforward........

Doesn't sound good at all. :(

Doesn't mean a thing, I'm afraid. It only takes an irresponsible owner to take an well bred bitch to an ill bred stud and you have problems.

Of course, and that's exactly what any loved family pet should be!
What breed are you talking about? Best advice would be to go through a breed club or from personal recommendation. It could well be a wise decision, and save money in the long run, to lose this deposit and spend time looking for a well bred puppy from health tested parents.
