I am new here and had a little qustion for anyone? How big can a male Sibe get? I have a purebredd Red/White male who is almost 10 months old and he weighs in at 75lbs already. Both or his parents only weigh 45(female) and 50(male). Is it common for a Husky to get this big? My vet says my boy will probably hit close to a 100lbs, which is bigger than any Husky she has ever seen and she breeds them.

Is there anyone else out there that has a Siberian who is this big? He is bigger than my roomates Malamute who is a year old.

Respectfully

Ive never known a husky that large, are you sure he is 100% pure sibe?

I know some dogs do get bigger than the set standard, but ive never seen a husky bigger than a mal ?

Height: dogs: 53-60 cms (21-231/2 ins) at withers; bitches: 51-56 cms (20-22 ins) at withers. Weight: dogs: 20.-27 kgs (45-60 lbs); bitches: 16-23 kgs (35-50 lbs). Weight should be in proportion to height. These measurements represent the extremes in height and weight, with no preference given to either extreme. A dog should not exceed 60 cms (231/2 ins) or a bitch exceed 56 cms (22 ins).

mmm..I would also be querying wether he is pure bred.A few pounds differnce is one thing but this much?
Is he KC reg?

He is very Pure Breed. The breeder has been breeding Husky's for almost 40 years. He is well know in this area. All of my pups littermates are REALLY small compaired to my boy. My roomate has his sister and she only weighs about 40lbs. He is pretty much twice her size. Our neighbor was the first to recommend our breeder and he has 2 dogs from a previous litter, Lucky is even bigger than them. I just can't figure it out.

BTW...The Mal is a pretty small female by standards too.

As long as he is healthy and ypu don't plan to breed from him then ..........all the more dog to love and snuggle (and all the more hair to hoover LOL)

Why wouldn't I breed with him?I started him in training for weight pulling and I have no current plans in my future to breed him. But I don't see any reason why I shouldn't if I wanted his pup eventually. He pretty much has a perfect disposition and no internal problems, he is actually healthier than me and I am a Nutritionist.

So why shouldn't I breed him later in life?

Because he is untypical of his breed.  the way to preserve breed traits is to breed from the healthiest, but also most typical specimins, so that the breed characteristics can be maintained within the standard tolerance3s as already given for size and other characteristics.

Sorry to laugh but your words (Why wouldn't I breed with him?) have you spoken with your dogs breeder maybe they can throw some light on him being so big

I did talk to the breeder, he said my Husky is just big. I just got a call from a friend in North Carolina, US, and she wants to breed my Husky with one of her Arctic wolf/Husky Hybrids she raises. I think I may do that and then get him fixed so I don't contaminate any Sibe lines. I will probably also take a pup from her too.

Thanks for the info

Would that not be cross-breeding?? I thought your dog was a pedigree??

I would think the US Archer ;)

US Breed Standard : Dogs, 21 to 23 1/2 inches at the withers. Bitches, 20 to 22 inches at the withers

He is Pedigree, but he is way above Breed standards in size so I won't ever be able to breed him to another Husky. My friend in NC runs a Wolf and Wolf hybrid Ranch in North Carolina and she wants to stud my boy to one of her bitches. I will probably do her the favor because my Husky is so unique and I have raised 4 Wolves in my life already.

I live in the US, but I am origionally from Ireland. I moved to the US when I was 9, now I am 24.

BTW, cross-breeding wolves and dogs is not illegal in the US, only in a couple states.
