Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / A good cheap mixer?
- By mc craic [gb] Date 10.08.05 19:14 UTC
Hi all. I'm looking for a cheap but decent mixer to add to tins of chappie? I'd be grateful for any feedback!! Thanks

I think Chappie might be a complete food, have you read the tin?  If not a supermarkets own make should be fine and reasonably priced.

Oh It is complete. I wanted to use a mixer for variety, half meat half mixer. Is this ok?

Tinned Chappie contains a significant amount of cereal (including wheat and rice) and is a complete food.  No need for mixer :D

Basically then you'd just be feeding mixer with a little protein for interest :(

Why not try the Gusto?  at 4.99 (tops) for 10 kilos you can't really lose out and dogs do seem to love it, no smelly poops, and no looseness and they look great :D

mix chappie with the gusto or try gusto on its own?

Thanks for warning me guys. I've had to find a food for my tight budget and after much deliberating I plumped for chappie. I was thinking of using a mixer and meat, but am unsure about type of mixer and meat to use. I usually find my brood JWB, BUT have had to cut back due to change of circumstances!!

Autarky website has a number you can ring and they should help with finding a supplier :)  You can feed Gusto on its own its fine, try in your local Tesco, if they haven't got it ask them to get it - they usually do :)

Have you not tried the frozen meats? is it Choice? they are cheaper than a tin of chappie and to be honest mine won't entertain chappie for a long period, its ok for them when i have ran out of tripe but not for more than 2 days running (fussy things :D)
Add with mixer and it is very economical.

I've never fed frozen meat before. I'd be a bit wary that the dogs where getting all the nutrients they need! I'm such a chicken I know!!!

Your dog would probebly be getting a better range of nutrients using prize choice frozen meats plus veg/fruit/offal/chicken wings and a holistic mixer than they would on Chappie plus mixer, or even Chappie plus a cheap complete dry (adding two complete feeds does not equal a complete diet).

Lots of raw food can be got cheap or for nowt (markets throwaway bruised fruit an veg, my local fruit n veg stall gives me a box full for free each week!!!)

Just to add to that, bruised or plain ugly veg. :) will be fine but make sure it is not elderly veg. as the vitamins will be greatly reduced.
