Hello

Does anyone out there own a papillon.  Mine is six months old and totally nuts.  I have owned dogs all my life but never had one like her.  She has so much energy that my 3 young shelties get worn out and she's still raring to go.  I love her to bits but are they always this mental?   I assume she'll calm down when she gets a bit older.

I don't own one but know several who do agility, they are known fondly as miniature collies for that very reason, they are full of energy 24/7. She probably will calm down a little bit but it may be helpful for you to find something else for her to do to help her settle. Maybe try playing games with her to make her think as she will be limited on exercise for a while. Or you could always take up agility in the next couple of months! :p :)

Thanks.  When I was looking into the breed, everything I read about them said they were 'lively little dogs'.   Just didn't realise how lively.  Wouldn't have put me off though as she's such a character.  Extremely intelligent and yes I do try to spend time playing with her.  She will retrieve a thrown toy if she's in the mood.    Not so sure about agility, she might have the energy for it but not sure about me!  Also don't they have to be 18 months before they can start agility?

No, they have to be 18 months before they can start competing in agility, not training. I start mine doing basics at 9 months, then once they are a year they can do most of it, although the jumps are kept very low. My youngest is now 14 months and is doing 20 inch jumps and all the equipment.
