Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can tell me how much it costs to dock a boxer pup?  I know about having to be a member of the docked breeds council, I'm just putting all the facts together to see if I can afford to breed my boxer,
Thanks,
Lil

I've no idea about docking costs I'm afraid, but it'll be a drop in the ocean when added to the rest of them. Basically, unless you have about £1500 saved up, you can't afford to breed from her.

Thanks.  I was thinking of spending up to 2k. I'm just really puzzled about the docking costs. The breeder I bought her off moved away. I'm sure our vet will probably know.

The costs will vary, the charge per puppy may not be very much £10ish and a consultation fee of perhaps £30 if they are close by.  It gets very much more expensive when there is no docking vet locally.  As I find it totally unacceptable to take a new born litter any distance in the car I pay for my vet to travel over an hour to me so my small litters of 4/5 cost me about £150 the last litter being about 4 years ago and of course petrol has gone up a lot since...................
Have you had her heart tested and hip scored yet?

No not yet.  Everything that needs done is going to be miles away by the looks of it.  Thanks for info

The vet that did mine charged £60 call out fee then £15 per pup!  I'd rather have them come to my house than upset the mother and the pups taking them quite a distance to his surgery.

I would say that would be the next step after speaking to your bitches breeder to ensure she thinks her suitable for contributing to the gene pool, then the breed recommended health screening, then start looking at all the other costs 'cos really all that research is not going to be worth it if the breeder or the health screening comes up with a no no :)

Like I say I'm looking in to EVERYTHING. It's best to know all facts.

My vet charged £20 call out fee and £11  per pup. the docking was painless, an elastic band was put on which they didnt feel and the tails fell off a few days later. the dew claws, however were snipped off with scissors and very painful, i dont think i would have them done again!

Hi firstly i would have your bitch heart tested that is going to cost you about £70 rough estimate as its quiet some time ago my girl was tested, then try and ask your girls breeder if she thinks she is a suitable example of the breed to breed from then find a suitable stud dog that in itself takes time and you could have to travel a distance to him. then there are anti biotics a possible C Section rearing the pups then last but by no means the least finding the puppies life long homes or being prepared to take any of the puppies back if their new owners cant look after them. have a long hard think about it. with my last litter i had a vet come to my home to do the docking and dew claws my bill for that was £250 including the home visit. good luck

Heart testing costs do vary.
If you can get to a Boxer breed show where they are doing heart testing (with a Boxer approved cardiologist)
Then this costs from £7.50 a dog. A friend has had their dog recently at the cardiologist's vet surgery
and this cost them £48.
