Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Vomiting Query!!!
- By Loz [gb] Date 10.08.05 09:25 UTC
Apologies for the following question - not a pleasant subject!!  Charlie, my 11 wk old border terrier "threw up" in the garden yesterday afternoon.  Before I even had chance to clear it up, to our horror, he had eaten it all!!  My children and I were heaving ourselves!!  He seems to have had no problems since and he seems his usual happy self. As a new dog owner, I'm not sure if this is normal behaviour or not - can anyone help?  Thanks, Loz

Perfectly normal! This is the way bitches wean their puppies, and they never forget it!

Thanks Jeangenie for putting my mind at rest.  Just hope he dosn't do it too often!!  Loz

Nauseating, isn't it?! :D

Yes it is - my children were horrified!!!  Loz

The first time I witnessed it, it made me sick (but I am weak stomached anyway). OH came upstairs to see what all the commotion was to find pooch polishing of the last of his vomit and me throwing up in the bathroom

Look on the positive side Loz, it's less to clean up :P   When you have a multi-dog household they have to be pretty darn quick at "getting their own back" - seems there's nothing quite as tasty as someone else's pre-heated lunch LOL :D

Yes it is horrifing , atleast once a year one of my dogs consumes a whole box of chocolates so i'm the one whos gotta drown em in peroxide and induce some nasty vomiting!
- By Goldmali Date 10.08.05 14:48 UTC
Wouldn't it be easier to always put chocolates out of reach?!
- By mannyG [us] Date 10.08.05 14:52 UTC
It's not always that easy , having 4 dogs its hard to make sure everything is out of reach. With them all bouncing around in the house its not unlikely for it to happen!

I manage with 9 in the house and no stolen chocolates. :) Considering it could kill them I always put any chocolates either inside a cupboard or high up on top of a bookcase. Oh and make sure I eat them as soon as only possible !!! :D

I find chocolates don't hang around long enough in this house either ;)
- By Loz [gb] Date 10.08.05 14:54 UTC
Yuck - how gross!!  Wish somebody had warned me about this before we got him - might have had second thoughts - joking!!!

the 3 kids love chocolate to , they leave it around :p

I gave one of mine some left over mince yesterday and he gulped it down so quickly it all whooshed back up again and the others proceeded to fight over it before gulping it back down on his behalf!!!  Yuk!

Teri, I'm feeling queasy now!!!

Have dogs generally got very weak stomachs anyway - i.e are they prone to throwing up? - more than us humans anyway?  Don't know what caused him to be sick in the first place.
- By LucyD [gb] Date 10.08.05 16:46 UTC
My puppy throws up grass every so often, but otherwise it's quite rare. But I do find them sniffing around the sick and have to clear it up quick - horrible mutts! :-)

Im not sure about the weak tummy thing. I suspect its more to do with being a ganet and regretting it 2 seconds later!

As far as dogs are concerned, it's a hot meal and therefore fair game.  It's naff, but unfortunately par for the course !

If its 'bounced' in their tummy then its not vomit, its regurgitated :) :) and just warmed nicely :D  Still makes me heave tho :p
