I have just put my 18month old basset on jwb. He has always been itchy but his skin has got worse -- it is hot, red and sore esp. in the creases but he itches all over and moults all the time-- it is very upsetting to see. He has had a skin scrape and blood test (both negative)and the food was the next thing to try (or so the vet said) Can anyone tell me how long I can expect to wait for any improverment and how long before we say back to the drawing board. He's been on it nearly 2weeks now and misses his hide chew treats! thanks Rita and Archie (in agony) Basset

Hi
Skin problems in Bassets....one of life's major headaches. I have found that JW did make a difference for one of my Bassets.....but we could only feed him that alone. If we gave him any treats within 24 hrs his skin flared up. We never cured the skin problem only managed it.
One of my other Bassets suffers hot spots not to the degree of Dudley mentioned above. I keep the hot spots at bay with cider vinegar.
I know of many bassets with skin problems some mild some very severe. If you would like to contact me for a chat or advice, please do..or get my details of the Basset Hound Welfare site. Rep for help and advice west midlands area.
