Topic Other Boards / Foo / Tiny Computers in administration!!
- By chingi [gb] Date 08.08.05 14:54 UTC
Hi we ordered a lap top computer from Tiny 2 days before the company went into administration! We paid by switch so its classed as a cash transaction, we have now been told we have to write to the administrators to stake our claim for the £600 for a computer we are never going to get! I am sooo angry that they took our order and our money they must have known this was about to happen! we saved sooo hard to pay cash and not use a credit card yet if we had used a credit card we would have had a better claim! Dont think we have much chance of getting our money back now :-( has any bodyelse been in this situation and managed to get money back? if so how did you do it?? or any suggestions on what to do next greatly appreciated. We have sent 2 recorded delivery letters to them ,so far no reply.:-(

I hate to say this - but your chances of getting anything back are very small. Normally these companies owe money to banks and the Inland Revenue - and they always get any spare cash going, before any other debtors :(

Usually what happens is that the receivers will send out forms to anybody who they believe is owed money, so they can establish how much is owed to whom. You should get one of these. If not - try to find out who the receivers are and contact them.

Hi Daisy , we have written to the administrators ,so we have to wait now, but i agree with you ,chances are very slim on getting money back. :-( but what makes me really angry is that Tiny stock will probably go at an auction and my £600 lap top that ive paid for will be one of them!!! aaaghhh!!! sorry to rant but im so upset about it, last week Tiny promised we would still get our computer and now they say not. The stock is still on the premises and we dont live a million miles away from them , makes me want to drive there bang on the door and demand what we have paid for!! We still wouldnt get it and would probably get marched off the premises by some burly security man!! thanks for your reply.

Sorry to hear that you have been 'stung' like this. I believe that the trading standards local to their head office is providing a lot of advice to customers and are collecting information on customers that are filing a claim.

Hope that this helps.

Yep you have a really good point , i will most certainly only pay C.o.D now. Also thank you for the tip on trading standards bluebell i will ring them now, never thought of that. Cheers everybody for taking the time to reply. x

Hi Chingi sorry to hear about that, its the whole Granville technology group that has gone into administers my son worked for them at Simmonstone he told me weeks ago that things wasnt right and he had already started looking for other employment needless to say they are owing him almost three months in wages which he doubts he will ever see. i can see your point going banging on the doors but like you say only people there now are the security people even the phones are not working. good luck getting your money back i do believe that time was stilling selling their pcs at bolton on the morning the firm went bust

If my memory serves me right so years ago Tiny was involved in another scandle about back up/service being non existant on their products, and was it not the case that Time computers were involved as well?
I can't remember the whole of the problems but it did come up on watchdog and even then the program was warning about buying from Tiny.

They have always had not very good reputation as they used the cheapest electronic parts possible to keep cost down.

Its always best to pay for goods C.O.D (Cash on Delivery) if paying cash, if a company is not willing to accept C.O.D then go to a company that is. At least that way you are not parting with your money until the goods are at your front door.

Hi Bazza,

I can't remember any more details than what you have, but they did have something a few years ago, my sister had a computer from them, and had no end of problems, I would ask her if she knew any more details but she is in Borneo on her hols at the moment!

Chingi,

Sorry to hear about the loss you have felt from this company going bust. It must be very disheartening, not to mention maddening!!!

Yes you are very right Bazza Time have had several problems i think this is why they changed their name to Granville technology. It appears that the head men at Granville tech are blaming tescos for pulling out on a huge contract.

As far as i remember Tiny disappeared a few years ago and Time bought them, well at least all the Tiny shops around here closed down and the time shops started selling Tiny computers - isnt it this time that the whole thing has gone bankrupt including Time?

I pay by credit card because you can do chargebacks etc the same thing happened with courts i believe the people who paid by credit card had more chance of getting their money back than the people who paid cash

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/08/09/employees_before_administrators/ - Says employees are to come before the administrators in getting their money

Yes, I think you are correct.  I remember Tiny going bust the first time as I had a computer from them at the time. I heard that Time were involved this time too.
