Sorry me again trying to understand my dog. Right he is 8 month Yorkie and I have posted on the humping thread but I was just wondering what is normal. Every day Arthur has a sexual encounter with his sofa, now I just thought dogs went through the motions (did the actions) but I believe he is doing the whole thing including production of fluid. When he has finished with his sofa he seems to be unable to walk and licks at himself until the ability to walk returns. What I want to know is
A) is this possible
B) is this normal
Sorry to you guys that are seasoned breeders/dog owners but this is the first male I have owned that has done this I have had 5 males in the past but all rescue dogs that were older and didnt exhibit this sort of behaviour. It doesnt bother me aslong as it is normal.
Cheers for any advice.

Hi Leanne - see this is being given a wide berth :P IME I would say (A) yes, definitely possible and (B) not in my household ;)
Regards, Teri

Yes dogs do sometimes masturbate, and the engorged member would affect the gait. :D
Oh right..... Next question is if I dont want this going on in my house how do I stop it or should the question be can I stop it? Is it common behaviour? Never heard of it but suppose its not something you would discuss with friends over coffee ha ha
Randy little imp hes only a baby!

If his sofa is the object of his attentions, remove his sofa!
What happens if he starts doing it on us?

Tell him a firm "No!" and send him to his bed to lie down and cool off!
okay will give it a go starting tomorrow. I feel like Im breaking up a beautiful relationship (joke).
We were thinking of getting a female dog when hes around 18 months but I dont think he would give her a minutes peace, obviously we would get her spayed. Maybe he will calm down with age, maybe Im wishful thinking.

I wouldn't think this is sexual , just more of trying to be dominant , hence my younger dogs humping or mounting the cats but not our older female because she is in charge!

I'm sure even the densest of dogs realises that a sofa isn't challenging him for dominance, Manny! :D :D Do your cats turn round and savage the dogs for doing it? If not, then there's no disincentive for doing it ...

At 8 months he has urges, all boy puppies do :) some more than others  perhaps distracting him when you can see the signs of it starting would help (cold showers and long runs :D :D :D NOT the cold showers tho obviously ;) ) Try giving him extra training sessions, teach him to do some tricks (ooer :D ) and yes give him some nice walks, try hiding treats in the house and garden and telling him to find them (make it really easy at first till he knows what you mean ) and if all else fails try a water pistol/plant spray to discourage him.

JG ROFLMAO and PMP
You KNOW that sofa needs putting in its place! :D
Yeah Believe you me this IS sexual.
I think I will just keep his little sofa out of the way and see if this stops him. I am constantly playing games and hide n seek with him he just breaks away for a sex session, so I dont think keeping him busy is the solution, he has 2 walks a day the second one we run him and walk him so hes quite pooped when he gets in but he always finds that extra bit of energy for his sofa ha ha. I will just take his object of affection away and deal with his reaction when it happens.

Can we hear all about his reaction please? :-)
Start that sofa on a rank reduction programme now! :-D
(Why don't these posts come out in the right place?)
Hello
My Ron did this once, his WHOLE member came out (think OH was slightly astounded) :D
and he arrived on the furniture, he also couldnt move for about 5 minutes whilst he recovered, honestly I thought he was going to spark up a fag!
He fell straight to sleep and we didnt hear a peep out of him for the rest of the evening!
If it wasn't so disgusting to watch and messy I would have actively encouraged it, I've never seen him so happy!:D
Thats exactly it blondiflop!! He seems so happy I feel cruel to put a stop to it. Its his own little sofa hes doing it on (like a little dog bed not our sofa). I will try taking it away tonight, as it is the evening he seems especially "up for it". I will let you know what happens.
Personally I cant really see what harm it doe, as I said Ron went through a real horney phase which he has grown out of now.
As long as he doesnt do it in comaony :D then I'd just let him get it out of his system...boyz will be boyz!
I think maybe I will let him do it but make him do it in the conservatory without spectators ha ha.
:D
Im sure it wont last forever!
>If it wasn't so disgusting to watch and messy I would have actively encouraged it, I've never seen him so happy
ROFLMAO :D :D :D I am so glad my boys have never tried anything like this. Sorry, if that little lad was mine he would until he was a year old to grow out of it or it would be up the vets!!!
ha ha would you take him for the snip colliesrus? Im gonna see if I can get him out of it. I must admit tho I have never known a dog to do the full enactment. Its not his randy time yet so aint tried to stop him yet.

Ted, my late JSI used to do this, but to nothing in particular. He used to thrust at the air until the "desired result" was achieved. We used to call it the "Air shag" ROFPMSL :D :D :D. One time he came into the loo first thing in the morning whilst I was having a pee, deposited his puppy juice on the floor and left. He never called or sent flowers.....I was most upset!
Oscar used to love My daughters big white teddy bear and the kids used to sing
Oscar loves the teddy, he wants to marry it,
every time he had a go, we have now removed teddy from reach and he has turned his attentions to our big black male cat, who is daft enough to just sit there while this puppy smaller than him goes at it like a little steam train.
>and he arrived on the furniture
ROFLMOL :P Lisa, you have just cheered up my very depressing day, the tears are still rolling down my face :D :D :D
Sorry, got nothing useful to add to this thread and I hope he grows out of it..........
But this was always a question that I couldn't think who to ask, when a dog humps inanimate objects "does he actually, to use Lisas terminology, "arrive". Now I know the answer but can't share it with anyone :P
Hairypooch You've given me the giggles!!! :D :D
Thats my poilite terminology!!!! LOL!!!!
Leanne
Mine has wet dreams and 'arrives' with no stimulation at all!

Yep, my boy used to do that too. Thank heavens for leather furniture and baby wipes. He's neutered now so no more of that behaviour :)
Oh my word caroline!!!! I bet Arthur will master that art as he gets older.... he will be arriving all over the place.
