Hi All
A little advice would be great. I thought we had our 17 week pup housetrained until this weekend. She was in her playpen in the kitchen with the door open to the garden but instead of going outside to pee, she went on the kitchen floor twice. She has been so good up till now and don't get why when she can go in the garden she would prefer to soil the floor inside.
Also someone said that if I wash the floor with Biological washing liquid, this gets rid of the smell she has left, but then someone else said non-biological liquid should be used. Can someone confirm which is better?
Thanks
Sarah
Hi Sarah,
I understood it was biological mixed with boiling water - but I'm new to this too!! Seems to work though, Kiera is still having accidents all the time, I wouldn't worry too much. Did you train her using rewards? If so, it might be worth going back to a bit of reward reinforcement?
I'm sure someone else will be along soon with more experience!!

Will get some on my way home at lunchtime as I like to leave her in her pen for the afternoon instead of the crate as its much bigger (fine in the morning as she is knackered after her walk). She is dry in her crate, not one accident in there. We did do reward training but this wore off after a bout 4 weeks, but also had paper down in her pen which she would go on and I don't think that helped as she may associate that its okay to go in there. I think if I get rid of the smell, then she may not go. Her last accident (last night) was right by the door, 2 more steps and she would have been in the garden. I never tell her off, but take her outside while I clean up.
This happened to us a few times when we thought Poppy was already housetrained. I spoke to her breeder and he said that because we're leaving the back door open all the time, she just views the kitchen as an extension of the garden, and advised us to keep the back door closed other than when she shows signs of "needing to go" and to praise her a lot when she does go. He did advise that if she goes in the house, to tell her (not shout) that she's "naughty" and put her straight outside so she knows that she should have wee'd outside. I wasn't keen on telling her off, but did follow the course of action and within a couple of days she'd got the message.

A hot solution of bio washing powder is best, but it should be followed up with a spray of white or surgical spirit - this breaks down the lingering fatty acids which hold the scent.

Relapses are normal , you still have to be consistant with your corrections.
I use Nature's Miracle an enzyme cleaner , it works great.
