Topic Dog Boards / Health / Colitis?

I took the 4 poodles (toy) to an agility show this weekend. On Saturday morning I picked up a poo in the caravan garden that was normal in size but covered in mucusy slime and had blood in it. I dont know which one it came from as must have been when I let them out very early for a quick wee. There was alos a lot of grass in it.

The show was on a showground with lots of long this grass and sheep poo. My younger poodle has taken to eating grass constantly so I think it may be him. He is also a very skinny boy - no matter how much I feed him.

I have poo watched all weekend since and nothing at all abnormal from any of them.

Do I need to worry at this stage?

I am a bit confused. Do you mean your poodle has colitis and has been previously diagnosed, or are you asking if it could be the start of it?

A dog could have frank (fresh) blood in his poo because he has got the squits and it has made the passage bleed with the acidity of it. If it is browny in colour it has come from the stomach and will be the lining, again probably caused by the acid. The mucus also comes from the stomach. He could have a bug or it could be something he has eaten. If he is fine in himself and not really pooing more than usual then it is most likely something he has eaten. I would assume this is the case as you are not sure which one it is. I would feed them something very bland, if anything at all and give them bio yoghurt. If there is any more of it you will need to collect a sample and take him to the vet.

HTH :)
