Topic Dog Boards / General / Getting rid of the smell...

Bless my little lad for rolling in somthing that has been dead a good while (fish I think?) however after 2 baths and a puppy that has been banished to the kitchen until I think of somthing, I thought I might ask if anyone has any ideas for getting rid of the smell, the puppy shampoo just dosen't cut the mustard....  shaving him and then jet washing him perhaps!???

Also just a little note that over christmas when he became old enough to go out, he was the most muddy and wet dog in the world, 'ahh can't wait for the summer' says I, no more mud, easy days.  All I can say is that the bloody sticky buds/burrs are far worse than any mud ever could be, said dog comes out of bush looking completely green and then its a good 30 mins of brushing to get the sodding things out... what fun!

You could try the old tomato ketchup trick. Don't know how effective it is for unidentified dead things but usually does the trick for fox poo etc so might be worth a try. Just cover the affected area with tomato ketchup and leave on for a while (best to keep him confined to the garden for this time) then rinse.

Know the feeling....I can think of few things that are less fun than picking hundreds of them out of a Newfie coat and she's still a pup. Think I'll be in for some long sessions with the comb when she's got her full coat

Right, I'm off into the garden with the Heinz!  Not sure he's gonna like it but its going to be funny seeing him stood there covered in tomato sauce (reaches for camera).

I don't envy you when your newfoundland has her full coat, my springer is bad enough!  It doesn't matter how long I brush for I still find a couple of hundred around the house, stuck to socks etc.

Right, ketchup time!

Dilute the ketchup in a jug of water, or you'll end up with a pink dog!! ;)

Too late Val, the deed is done, he's looking very sorry for himself now.  We think we have a 'gay' pet anyway, perhaps he'll look good in Pink?  Seriously though he won't stay pink, will he?

Probably not - but he might start mincing with attitude in the park!!!;)

Good luck...if past experiences are anything to go by, you'll end up with at least as much ketchup on you as he will :D Hope it works. It's not fun to share the house with a dog reeking of dead things :D Why do we love them so much

Good thinking Val, I have dark dogs so didn't think of that. Wouldn't want the other dogs in the park laughing at his pretty pink coat :D :D

Now you'll definitely have to get the camera out :D Hopefully the pink will fade (have never had that problem with a black dog and a brown one). Give him a good shampoo when your rinsing off the ketchup and don't let him anywhere near a mirror...unless you think he might like his new feminine side ;)

You can get dog deodorant and it smells really nice. It can be used on puppies.
