Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Help?

Acorah has taken to attempting to eat EVERYTHING in my garden, this includes my yard brush, a bramble bush, stinging nettles, Bits of I dont know what, and old clothes the neighbours seem to enjoy throwing into my garden. He came running in from the garden last night with a pair of manky knickers hanging out of his mouth

Hes started digging for England also, I;ve tried everything to discourage him from doing this, he seems to like the taste of wet soil

Hes scared of the hair dryer and the hoover, barks like crazy and then runs away, comes back and starts again.

When I try to sweep outside he tries taking the brush from me by pulling at the bristles!

Help meeee!!

Sounds like he is one of my Malamutes ;) All quite normal I reckon :D

The manky knickers thing did it for me yesterday, I felt sick chasing him round the garden with rubber gloves on to put them in the bin :D

LOL ...I can imagine :D :D Just try and make sure ANYTHING that he shouldn't be eating is off the ground ;) We have to check the garden reglarly as the children next door often accidentally chuck things over :) My pup lurves playing with their toys LOL

Its the usual stuff in the garden too, like my plants, which I'm not impressed about. But the soil thing, surely thats not normal?
- By Brainless [gb] Date 07.08.05 11:16 UTC
Perfectly normal.  Those who want nice gardens either partion or fence the good bits off from the dogs, or resign themselves to a back garden resembling a quarry or moonscape and keep their nice plants in front garden. :D  By about 4 years old with supervision the pup may deside to do less gardening.

Yep - sounds normal to me.  Lennon loves trying to wrestle the broom from me by grabbing the bristles.  It's a game of course !!  He also trys to get it whilst I am sweeping - ROFLMAO - I think it's hilarious!  He was also a digger - we had no grass/mud left that didn't have a nice deep hole.  We paved the lot in the end.

We have patchy grass, holes filled with bricks, mesh fence around the flower bed. It all gone to the dogs nice gardens and dogs dont go together.

My two work together to get the grid lid off yuk yuk yuk .....if I dont catch them they bring it into thier bed yuk yuk yuk covered it with  bricks.... a table.....the best one that they havent worked out how to move is a empty calor gas bottle  they  dig holes take tea towels outside and bring rubbish inside they chew the brush handle if they can get a hold of it  and swing on my washing on the clothes airer if I dont watch them like a hawk  thinks its all part of dog ownership and just accept it to a point !!!!!

Yep had to pave my whole garden aswell, grass, dogs and kids just don't mix very well (well mine don't anyway) Stick with very high hanging Baskets!!
- By Acorah [gb] Date 07.08.05 15:51 UTC
I have come to acknowledge the fact hanging washing out while Acorah is outside is a bad idea, he can jump quite high for a little cocker spaniel pup!

very normal lol.
I can only hoover or sweep floor if both are out in the garden.
I have partitioned my garden up so i have a nice part and a dog friendly part.
Only thing is the washing line which Henri enjoys going around and around holding on to some item of washing lol.

Perfectly normal for a working dog who has been bred to spend all day out in the field giving every ounce of his concentration to finding and locating game.

This is a dog who will need to be active and not left to his own devices to play in a garden.  This behaviour will increase unless you get his mind active and focussed on some type of activity.  I understand that you didn't buy him to work but you could do other challenging activity with him, even from this young age.

I want to get into training him, but he just doesnt seem interrested, he just gets exited and wees everywhere :S

I have bearded collies and go to obedience  training and agility classes and were in a display team until recently  I also have an agility course set up in my garden for thenm ,am now starting to show my girls but they still have the energy to run mad around the garden and cause havoc .They are certainly not left to thier own devices .

Pip our terrier (the barker see my post about bad on lead) is dreadful when I am sweeping or using the Henry Hoover.  In both cases he is biting at the bristles/hoover end and I have to shut him out of the room.

This is also something I wish he would desist from doing!
