Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / muzzle for staffie

Hiya everyone,

Need some help. Our neighbors are having some dog aggression problems with their 1 year old staffie. They have wisley decided that they need to muzzle Bob whenever he goes out incase he turns agressive again - he had 1 "spat" with a cocker spaniel the other day - luckely there was no blood but apparently lots of noise and both parties including both owners were very shook up. They do not want this to happen again.

They have tried a soft muzzle but he can get it off his head so are thinking of a hard basket type like a "Baskerville muzzle" or perhaps a wire one. We are not sure what size he will need and as these are not common around our pet shops they would purchase one from the internet.

I wonder if any of you have had the same problem and could help with the correct size for him.

By the way, I havesuggested they take Bob to training classes to get help for his socialisation skills.

Thanks, Aimi.

A size 12 in the baskerville muzzle is probably your best bet. www.Petplanet.co.uk sells these and a whole range of other doggy goodies at sensible prices and they also have a sizing guide. Hope this helps.

Hi Aimi,

I have experienced similar problem with the muzzle when we took our dog to training classes. Mt staffi managed to get the Baskerville off !, he either dragged his nose along the floor or jumped up to get his claws in and pulled until it came off. No amount of distraction would stop him from trying to get at it. He will not tolerate anything over his nose so our trainer advised us t stop using it as it was just upsetting him and wouldn't help with his training. It's worth a try though.

I know this thread is a bit out of date but didn;'t know if you still need some help.  The size 12 baskervilles rarely fit staffies - they are better with a standard shaped 6 or 7 with a loop over the top so the dog can't drag it off.

If your friend needs help resolving her staffies aggression problem get her to contact me:-
