I have got my new puppy, Oscar. He's a wonderful little sheltie puppy, his KC name is Kelross Country Tweed. This is the start of his thrid day and he's already learning to sit. What I'd like to know is, should I start getting him used to grooming right away or let him settle in a bit more. Also, what is the best way to get him used to useing a brush on him. What do you think I should do handeling wise to help him grow up used to grooming etc Oh and he don't like sitting on laps, he wiggles a lot, should I teach him to stay put for a tiny while a day or let him do his own thing?

I would say right away, but don't embark on a full grooming session. Just get him on your lap or on the floor if he prefers, and run the brush a couple of times along his sides and back before giving him a treat. As he grows older and calmer, and he gets used to the feeling, you can gradually increase the sessions. Also slowly get him used to you running your hands all over him and checking his teeth, eyes and ears - again, just a little at a time until he trusts you won't hurt him. Have fun!

Right away , waiting will accomplish nothing :p. The dog will immedietly react if he likes brushing or does not, some dogs never like to be brushed and others love it. Good Luck
