Yep, would recommend M&S - very reasonably priced (and often considerably lower) yet often better coverage than many others ie. life long, from memory I think it's max of £7k per individual illness, for a few pence extra a month you can do away with excess and they are very quick to pay up.

Don't know what breed you have - many companies can vary quite radically on a few breeds and some won't accept particular breeds at all so you will have to do some reasearch and careful comparisons of the small print - but that's the case with any insurance cover :)

If you are breeding its worth checking the small print as some do not cover for that.
I've just looked at one mentioned on this post and it quotes on their web site the following.

Significant and unusual exclusions and limitations
Your pet being used for breeding purposes

Has anyone else come across this?

Oh I'm with Petplan and its expensive at nearly £40 a month.

I have it.  It's £7k per year total, but reinstated every year.  That's the main difference between it and PetPlan - they do per illness per year.  But I switched from PP to them because it cost me the same for 3 with M&S as it had for 2 with PP.

Have paid out no question on 2 claims - one being almost £1,000 only a few weeks after the policy started.  They offer a discount on any dog after the first, and for a small annual fee (about £5 a year) you can have no excess.

M & S (AXA) does look good.
The Petplan I have is unlimited, no set amount and thats why its expensive. Its so hard with so many insurances out to find one you are happy with. It really depends on what you want and how much cover you are happy with.

I've tried loads and M&S is my choice now.  I think I pay about 15 pounds a month for copper, that's the top cover with no excess and its a lifelong policy.  They did say though that as the dog gets older the excess will change to a percentage of the bill.  Think it's when they get to 9 years old.  I've claimed with them as well and they coughed up with no quibbling.

I use Direct Line.  My dogs are 9 and 10 and we've just had a big claim for £3500 - disc surgery.  Excess is £45.00, no exclusions due to age.   The excess has not increased nor do you have to pay a percentage of the bill depending on how old the dog is.   I was quite surprised by this so I rang them to check.

I pay £30.00 per month for 2 GSD's, last year I was paying £5.00 per month less so I daresay it will go up again next year.  To be honest I've found them great, no quibble about claims and they've already paid me more than I've paid them.

I used to be with More Than and found them really good but as the dogs aged the premiums went up quite extortionately which was why we moved.  It's a case of scrutinizing the Terms and Conditions, exclusions etc and picking a policy that meets your needs.

I'm with Sainsburys and I pay £9.93 a month for my Leo with £50 excess. This has just gone DOWN from £13.23.

They also cover for life.

Cant be bad!!!

I'm with M&S paying £11.19 for the first dog and £10.?? for the second with no excess.
We have went 2 years without any insurance and luckily haven't had any huge bills.
One of mine has just had blood test costing a whopping £130 but unfortunately we have to foot the bill as it's to do with a pre-existing condition.

We used Tesco's then found Churchill covered the cat and dog for less than we paid at Tesco's ! But I have heard M & S are good too... I might be tempted to move when the renewal comes up if the cover is better... it is worth checking it out for your breed...
