Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / An Update day - Day 51

Hi guys, just thought I'd give you an update :-) we're on day 51 from 3rd mating and 49 from last. I'm not 100% sure which one she took from so prepared for anything. She's been really good up until the last couple of days but she's decided she doesn't like ANY food anymore! won't eat anything I'm trying to tempt her with except ham. Tried everything. So I'm not forcing the issue and still trying to offer her small meals just in case she decides she's going to eat. She was sick this morning, so I get the feeling she's feeling a tad icky at the latter end rather than earlier on. She's not very big at all, in fact you probably wouldn't even know she's in whelp until she sits down and her belly drops to the floor or she's lying on her back. I felt them moving last night, what a lovely feeling :-) could feel movement on both sides so I know she's having more than one, possibly only the 3 which saw on the scan. Taking her for her 2nd CHV tomorrow. Not really looking forward to it, as it's a 25 minute journey each way. I'm being paranoid I think. The crate will be securely strapped into the car with plenty of bedding but I'm still worried. It's all motorway so it's pretty much a straightforward drive. Whelping box is all ready to put, I'll do this at the weekend and I've been checking through my supplies to make sure I've got everything ;-) One thing though, blunt scissors?? where do you buy blunt scissors LOL. And what is the best dissinfectant to use for the whelping box?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, my girl is also on day 51 but will eat absolutely anything! She's a real little pig. I have to watch that she doesn't find her way to my other girl's food bowl when no-one is looking. My girl is a cavalier and she's is really quite large now - we only saw two pups on her scan at 30 days but if there's only two they must be elephants! I have got my whelping area ready just off the kitchen in a small room with enough room for me to have a bed as well! I have got Genie disinfectant for the whelping box and surrounding area, it's effective against many viruses and bacteria eg parvo, salmonella etc. This can be bought from www.doghealth.co.uk (0800 6526299) and I have several types of scissors, including blunt ones from the canine chemist www.hyperdrug.com (0870 225 4777). Good luck with everything.

Thanks very much, I'll look into the both the items you mention :-)
She ate a bit better yesterday. She's a fussy eater at the best of time. Can really feel them moving about now and does seem to have expanded even more the last day or two. I've ordered a stethoscope to see if I can hear the heartbeats. Good luck with your girl :-)

HI, I have a mini wire bitch on day 48 and she is really quite big.  She started at 10lbs 15ozs and has just weighed in at 14lbs 14ozs.  I am praying that she has a normal whelping and more than 2 puppies as my last 2 litters have been a nightmare - cesarean, single puppy or cesarean - 2 big puppies so I have all my fingers crossed.  She looks really well and has had the CHV - she has her next one next Friday, which will be her 55th day and I am also nervous about that.  This is her first litter and I really would like a nice male.  She is eating really well, although seemed to be very fussy between 3 and 4 weeks.  I haven't had her scanned but am dying to know what is in there!

Hi Sue
I was nervous about going for the 2nd CHV but she was absolutely fine, I took the straightest route and also put loads of comfy bedding in her crate. I'm having to be inventive now to get her to eat anything!! Fingers crossed that all goes well with your girl. Why not buy a stethoscope so you can listen to heartbeats? I'm not counting really though as what will be will be and I'm not sure if I'm listening to the same one twice!! I bought mine off Ebay fro £5.75 including P&P it's got different ear pieces and attachments (sprague rappaport) it hink. I foyu PM me I can give you the link as I received it within less than 24 hours :-)
