Does anyone know the reason why a puppy might be born with one eye and one empty socket.  Not my dog, trying to put some one elses mind at rest.

Such congenital abnormalities are thought to be the result of infection or trauma at the crucial second trimester.

Thanks Brainless

Any web sites you know of with detailed info.  It is possible that this puppy is one of the sad little things comming from a bitch bred on every season and every bit of info could be helpful in putting a stop to this.

I just remember a bit in the book of the bitch that mentions it.

Anophthalmia  is the term and found several websites that said it was likely to be found in the pups from merle to merle breeding.

Thanks again, only a brief mention of it in Book of the Bitch we didnt help much.  I will research Anophtalmia and see what I come up with.

Found it.  That answers a lot of questions.  One of the breeds in this cross is susceptible to this eye condition.

many, many thanks
