Do any of you get a kick out of getting bargains from Charity Shops?  The funny thing is, when I was younger and had no money for clothes, I wouldn't have been seen dead in a charity shop or wearing anything from one.  Now that I am older with a bit more money to spend, I just LOVE them.  Got me a lovely designer top yesterday for £4.00!!

I used to love Charity Shops when I lived in a small town with about 7 all in a row!!  Used to love getting my books from them - so much cheaper!!  :D

I don't live near any anymore but yes - used to get some great bargains!!  :D

Haven't they changed over the years though? they used to be full of 'jumble' now they are lined up with washed and pressed clothing and other bargains. I especially love the ones in the 'wealthier' areas around here, like Sunningdale and Ascot! you can pick up some terrific bargains at them. :D :D

Forgot to add Spice has several squeaky, safe toys from charity shops at a fraction of the price of petstore toys! :D and it doesn't matter if she destroys them ;)

I adore charity shops :D :D :D The red cross is my favourite so cheap i have picked up loads of designer items from there.
Oxfam i loathe they have totally outpriced themselves, you can pick up an second hand item that would cost nearly the same new! (Or maybe its just in my area)
Books i buy plenty and then take them back when read i have found some brilliant dog books in my hunts.

Hi,
The people that work in the charity shops get the first pickings. Some times
round our area old people clear out and give things to the shops which are quite valuable.
As They don't understand the value of some of there item as they think they are just
old. Then you see them on  antique's show. Always worth looking.

Red rag to a bull.....  :(

I used to be an assistant manageress in a Shelter shop and WE DID NOT get first pickings.   Everything has to be on the shop floor for 24 hours before we are allowed to buy it and it is a rule strictly adhered to and part of our contract.

PS) And yes you do get some brilliant bargains, I bought an almost brand new Barbour for a tenner.

Hi Christine,

Yes!! My X husbands women friend worked in one for  over 10 years
Still think she does, Her and her staff always had the first picking
it was a well known charity shop. They also decided what price to charge
for the items, As I beleve there was a bonus for the shop with the largest sales.
It was always her's in the region. Could tell you some stories!! But!! I won't.
