hi brock has his first show on monday its an open show ,will i get a pass ? how will they know i have paid ? do i just turn up ? im scared stiff thanks
Just turn up. If you have paid for a catalogue you will be able to pick it up, usually at the door if it's an indoor show. Or from the tent if it's outdoors. If you haven't bought a catalogue there are usually some for sale. Your name, and your dog's!, will be in the catalogue telling you your number and which class(es) you will be entered in. You will also find out the ring number. Good luck and enjoy it :)
Edited to add: open shows don't usually give out passes. ;)

How did it go?
Hi a good idea when posting your entries off is to get a proof of postage
certificate stamped at the post office.
This is the KC recognised form of proof of postage if for whatever reason
the show society don't receive your entry (you aren't entered in the show catalogue)
if you take this card to the show then they are obliged to accept your entry again on the day.
This card costs nothing - just a little of your time to pop into the post office and
get the card stamped. When I do this I just staple the POP card to the show schedule
and then take it to the show just incase.
Also if you've paid by personal cheque you can just check your bank statements or if you've
telephone banking just call to check to see if the cheque has been cashed.
I know of a lady that turned up to an open show thinking she was entered and sadly for her
no entry in the catalogue and she'd not brought her proof of postage certficate with her.
So she went home again.
Passes tend not to be issued for open shows, the only real exception is if it's an agricultural
show or a dog show that's part of a bigger public show that they charge admission for.
When entering a show I write on the front of the schedule which dogs I've entered for the show
and also if I've ordered a catalogue or not. Then I keep all the schedules in a file that way hopefully
I won't miss a show or double book and enter two shows on the same day etc :D
I keep the schedules that I've received but not done yet at the front of the file and the entered shows
at the back of the file with a divider inbetween. Also I use the file to store my show passes too.
That way hopefully I don't lose them either.
Also what I find handy is I have a mangetised list stuck to my fridge with a check list of what I
could possibly need for a dog show. I then double check this before the day of the show & before I leave for the show.
That way I hopefully don't forget anything :D
My check list reads as follows
Check car - fuel/oil/water/tyres
Bait/Bait bag/Dog show bag
Ring Clip/Arm Band
Benching Blanket/Benching chain/Cage (Benching blankets & chains normally needed for Ch shows)
Water/Water bowls
Leads/ Dogs!
Schedule/POP/Passes
Purse/Mobile/Map/Route plan
Sandwiches/Drink
Towels/Seat/Trolley
Reflective Covers/Bungees
Wet Weather gear/Show Jacket
Check bag for 1st aid kit (inc pain relief etc)
Yourself!
Remember to take a deep breath and enjoy yourself, once you get your first open show rosette you'll
be hooked :D and in a few years you'll be the one passing on all your knowledge & experience to
someone starting on the showing ladder :)
Best of Luck
Kirstine
thanks so much for your reply, what do you put in your first aid kit ?
I have piriton (for both humans and the dogs useful for stings), rescue remedy (for both again) plasters, headache tablets (i.e paracetemol or ibuprofen)
rennie rapeeze (indigestion etc), vet wound powder, scissors, antiseptic wipes, tissues and ladies stuff ;)
Ooh and I also carry vaseline in my dog bag anyway for cleaning the dogs nose :D
I also have a dogs 1st aid kit that I leave in the car too just incase..
I've probably forgotten some stuff not really been through the 'dog show bag' to clean it out again.
Basically probably carry everything but the kitchen sink, like any ladies bags contain normally :D

we are now going to carry arnica
fiona
thanks for that im new so any info is great thanks

Snap - me too!! Exactly the same system. I lost track sooo badly the first year or two that when I started this it was great. Everything's in it's place, I know what I've entered, all Proof of postings are in the right place. If I've booked an overnight the confirmation info goes in there as well. I also write the cheque no. on the front of the schedule as well so I dont' have to go searching for it later when I'm checking it.
