we have decided to go with our choices i'm going to have a little westie pup and hubby's going to have a border,hopefully september time,when the kids have gone back to school.now all we have to decide on is whether to buy a dog or bitch,and find some decent breeders that know the breeds well and have the puppys best interests at heart and give us support after we bring the pup home.Is it advisable to buy to pups together or wait a while.

Most people will recommend that you rear one pup to maturity and then get another. Two pups are more than twice the work!! Twice as much pee/poo to clean up for a start during housetraining :) You'd probably be best to leave it at least 18 months between pups if possible. that way you have time to train the first one so it can be a good example to the second. Also, a good breeder would be reluctant to allow a puppy to go to a home where there is another puppy as it is almost impossible to give two puppies the attention they require in the early stages.

Now you have to decide which to get first, Border or Westie?? Although this might be dictated by availability of puppies with the breeder of your choice.

They don't cry so much if you have them together, They bond with
each other more than they will with you. They encourage one another
to do naughty things. If you have a dog and a bitch puppies always
together, at six months approx. when the bitch starts her season egh!!
It will be a job to keep them apart. Apart from that they will be fine a!!
There is always loads of wee's and poo's.

cry? why should a puppy cry? (unless you are planning on leaving unattended & miserable on its own) :(

Unless you are going to take them to bed with you i would expect it to cry until it got used to it. :D

Most puppies cry when bedtime comes without litter mates and there mom!
Puppy can't go out for approx 12 weeks so there is always a time when they
have to be left. Unless you are having them in your bed and never leaving them alone!
24hours a day!!

Most will advise to leave about 18 months between. Training is VERY difficult when there is more than one, and you want to be the best of friends with one before the other arrives. If you are thinking of one of each sex, the first will be of an age for spaying/castration before you get the other and you wont have to keep them separated. Contact the breed clubs for both breeds to find reputable breeders.

Hmm...not a problem I have really had.....certainly not with any of my nine current & 10 previous hounds. :)

Thanks guys we have decided to go with having a border first,and see how we go,and we talked about having 2 pups and decided that having 2 pups will be alot of hard work,so we are just going to get one for the time being.
I have been on the phone to a breed club and they were very nice and gave me some phone numbers of well established breeders.
I have rang one and she is very nice,spent over 1 hour on the phone talking it through she has kept borders for over 20 yrs and offers lifetime support,all her pups leave with pedigree kc registration a puppy pack including a little bag of food, a toy,diet requirements,insurance and a piece of bedding with the mothers scent on it.
I felt very at ease talking to her and she currently only has one pup left for sale so we are waiting till she breeds her next litter (different bitch)who lives at a family members house,we have a long wait though shes not due to mate her till nov,and pups will be due jan and ready for there new homes mar/apr next year.

I know it seems like a long time but a quality pup is always worth the wait. You can use the time until then to do plenty of research and make preparations for your new arrival. Maybe you could arrange to meet with the Breeder and her dogs at a time when she has no pups at home so you can learn more about the breed and get an idea of what they are like to live with. A good breeder should be happy enough to do this as they will want to have the opportunity to 'vet' you too.

But having 2 puppies so they dont cry when left alone is not covering all aspects is it. A puppy needs to bond with its owner, not another puppy.

The thought of two puppys, 'SCREAMS OF HORROR'..... one is plenty, think of all that wee and poooh and naughty tricks.... it is soo much fun having a puppy!
