Quick question folks. My golden dog is on DAP. Everytime we meet another dog in the park they.. how to put this diplomatically... they develop an interest in him as though he were a bitch.
Now at times it can be quite funny - for example there was a over sexed westie that tried it with him - well it couldn't even reach his back when stood on its hind legs...
However, there are times where a big dog will really pester him - anyone else had similar experiences with DAP?
I keep telling him to run - but he just stands there looking stupid. I kinda think he is enjoying the attention. Is my golden gay!?!!???! LMAO.
Seriously though - anyone had similar experience/side effect with DAP?

Has he been neutered? How long have you had the DAP working? Did this behaviour start after the DAP?
Yes neutered. He's been on the DAP for over a year - I've tried unsucessfully to bring him off it but he i very anxious. Off to pet behaviourlist at some point in v near future too...

This unfortunately happens quite often with castrated dogs. How long ago was his operation? If under a year ago it might improve without treatment. If it's been longer than that it's likely a permanent side-effect. Testosterone treatment
might help.

This happens occasionally to my neutered male (he was neutered last October). Bless him, he usually thinks the othe dog is wanting to play. I've noticed that the 'offenders' are usually Labs (for some reason) but it doesn't happen often enough for me to consider it a real problem. I tell my boy that he should be flattered that they find him so attractive ;D :D
Yep it's Labs that really like him... especially one - who I am convinced is a very confused animal.
Just noticed it in teh last month or so - probably once a week or so but the reason I wrote was this Lab was really bothering him last night. So much so Ollie, my dog, was almost trying to leap in to my arms to get away from him.
He was neutered when he was 14 months - so about 19 month ago.

I've used a dap collar (so the dog has had it on while out too) and not had that problem, so I think it's more likely to be due to him being castrated.

Mounting often is nothing to do with anything of a sexual nature. Often is to do with status-related behaviour. Some entire males will hump absolutely anything, whether it is castrated or not. You need to look further into this to really determine exactly what the problem is. A qualified behaviourist is your best port of call. They will be able to see the behaviour exactly and all the many, many factors that need to be seen for a proper diagnosis to take place.
Cheers,
Patty
