I am buying a puppy soon and I have read that bedding with Cedar Wood Shavings in it are very good at keeping the flea population down and to keep your dog smelling sweet.

Can anyone please confirm that this is correct, and if it is can anyone advise where I can obtain such a bedding type.

HI, I would always use veterinary bedding or shredded paper for the puppy to actually lie on. Fraid I haven't heard of these shavings, but I get a large bale ordinary shavings for the kennel floors which work well. Some makes are more absorbant than others, keep an eye for the odd big bit or splintery pieces. To be honest IMO the only thing that keeps fleas away for sure is a drop on treatment like Frontline or Advantage from the vet.

I have been looking for the right sort of shreeded paper for some time now. I did have a source but that is no longer available so we now use shredded tea-bags.
Well not really teabags shredded, as I think that would be rather messy, but the left overs from making tea-bags. This is not as good as what we used before so I am looking for a suitable supply of paper.
Does anyone know of a source??

Hi, I cant get it either so eventually I bought myself a small shredder and now shred all suitable paper that comes into the house, at least there is some use for the junk mail now!! Some solicitors/large offices/ health authorities would be only too pleased to pass on bags of it, also local colleges/schools often shred huge amounts of paper. For a dark coated dog you can tear up old newspapers, but dont try it with white ones - they wont be white for long!!
